Parallel. For uses 50-70% of CPU part 2 (narrowed down to some BigInteger math)

A while ago I asked about this problem I had with Parallel. For where it used all cores but only at ~60%. Thanks to all the excellent advice I received here I was able to narrow down the problem to 3 parts of the code. 1. The way I was creating the IEnumerable which I replaced with a simple array (special thanks to u/panoskj) 2. A bug where different threads were actually writing to the same buffers inside ICompareService which was a global instance instead of being created for each thread (but this also suffers from 3). 3. Some math involving BigInteger on this line.
Out of these 3 I've fixed 1 and 2 and they make sense but I can't figure out why the third one is causing problems and I need help again (haven't published these changes on GitHub due to being incomplete). If I comment out L329 and replace L467 with a simple array comparison the parallel loop can successfully use 100% CPU on all cores.
I am creating both the calculator and the generator (starting point) inside each thread although I don't think it matters. The full calculator code can be seen here: https://github.com/Coding-Enthusiast/FinderOutetree/masteSrc/FinderOuteBackend/Asymmetric/EllipticCurve The relevant code for the method being called is this (Elliptic Curve point multiplication):
internal EllipticCurvePoint MultiplyChecked(BigInteger k, EllipticCurvePoint point) { EllipticCurvePoint result = EllipticCurvePoint.InfinityPoint; EllipticCurvePoint addend = point; while (k != 0) { if ((k & 1) == 1) { result = AddChecked(result, addend); } addend = DoubleChecked(addend); k >>= 1; } return result; } internal EllipticCurvePoint AddChecked(EllipticCurvePoint point1, EllipticCurvePoint point2) { if (point1 == EllipticCurvePoint.InfinityPoint) return point2; if (point2 == EllipticCurvePoint.InfinityPoint) return point1; BigInteger m; if (point1.X == point2.X) { if (point1.Y != point2.Y) // (x,y) + (x,−y) = O { return EllipticCurvePoint.InfinityPoint; } // Point double or (x,y) + (x,y) m = ((3 * point1.X * point1.X) + curve.A) * (2 * point1.Y).ModInverse(curve.P); // Note that since points are on a group with a prime (mod p) all of them do have multiplicative inverses. } else // point1 != point2. (x1,y1) + (x2,y2) { m = (point1.Y - point2.Y) * (point1.X - point2.X).ModInverse(curve.P); } BigInteger x3 = ((m * m) - point1.X - point2.X).Mod(curve.P); BigInteger y3 = (m * (point1.X - x3) - point1.Y).Mod(curve.P); return new EllipticCurvePoint(x3, y3); } internal EllipticCurvePoint DoubleChecked(EllipticCurvePoint point1) { if (point1 == EllipticCurvePoint.InfinityPoint) return point1; BigInteger m = 3 * point1.X * point1.X * (2 * point1.Y).ModInverse(curve.P); BigInteger x3 = ((m * m) - (2 * point1.X)).Mod(curve.P); BigInteger y3 = (m * (point1.X - x3) - point1.Y).Mod(curve.P); return new EllipticCurvePoint(x3, y3); }
EllipticCurvePoint is a struct with 2 readonly BigInteger properties
public struct EllipticCurvePoint : IEquatable { public EllipticCurvePoint(BigInteger x, BigInteger y) { X = x; Y = y; } public BigInteger X { get; } public BigInteger Y { get; }

A decentralized storage network that transforms cloud storage into an account market. Miners obtain the integrity of the original protocol by providing data storage and / or retrieval. On the contrary, customers pay miners to store or distribute data and retrieve it.
Filecoin announced, that there will be more delays before its main network is officially launched.
Filecoin developers postponed the release date of their main network to late July to late August 2020.
As mentioned in a recent announcement, the Filecoin team said that the initiative completed the first round of the internal protocol security audit. Platform developers claim that the results of the review showed that they need to make several changes to the protocol’s code base before performing the second stage of the software testing process.
Created by Protocol Labs, Filecoin was developed using File System (IPFS), which is a peer-to-peer data storage network. Filecoin will allow users to trade storage space in an open and decentralized market.
Filecoin developers implemented one of the largest cryptocurrency sales in 2017. They have privately obtained over $ 200 million from professional or accredited investors, including many institutional investors.
The main network was slated to launch last month, but in February 2020, the Philly Queen development team delayed the release of the main network between July 15 and July 17, 2020.
They claimed that the outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in China was the main cause of the delay. The developers now say that they need more time to solve the problems found during a recent codecase audit.
The Filecoin team noted the following:
“We have drafted a number of protocol changes to ensure that building our major network launch is safe and economically sound.” The project developers will add them to two different implementations of Filecoin (Lotus and go-filecoin) in the coming weeks.
Filecoin developers conducted a survey to allow platform community members to cast their votes on three different launch dates for Testnet Phase 2 and mainnet.
The team reported that the community gave their votes. Based on the vote results, the Filecoin team announced a “conservative” estimate that the second phase of the network test should begin by May 11, 2020. The main Filecoin network may be launched sometime between July 20 and August 21, 2020.
The updates to the project can be found on the Filecoin Road Map.
Filecoin developers stated:
“This option will make us get the most important protocol changes first, and then implement the rest as protocol updates during testnet.” Filecoin is back down from the final test stage.
Another filecoin decentralized storage network provider launched its catalytic test network, the final stage of the storage network test that supports the blockchain.
In a blog post on her website, Filecoin said she will postpone the last test round until August. The company also announced a calibration period from July 20 to August 3 to allow miners to test their mining settings and get an idea of how competition conditions affected their rewards.
Filecoin had announced earlier last month that the catalytic testnet test would precede its flagship launch. The delay in the final test also means that the company has returned the main launch window between August 31 and September 21.
Despite the lack of clear incentives for miners and multiple delays, Filecoin has succeeded in attracting huge interest, especially in China. Investors remained highly speculating on the network’s mining hardware and its premium price.
Mining in Filecoin
In most blockchain protocols, “miners” are network participants who do the work necessary to promote and maintain the blockchain. To provide these services, miners are compensated in the original cryptocurrency.
Mining in Filecoin works completely differently — instead of contributing to computational power, miners contribute storage capacity to use for dealing with customers looking to store data.
Filecoin will contain several types of miners:
Storage miners responsible for storing files and data on the network. Miners retrieval, responsible for providing quick tubes for file recovery. Miners repair to be carried out.
Storage miners are the heart of the network. They earn Filecoin by storing data for clients, and computerizing cipher directories to check storage over time. The probability of earning the reward reward and transaction fees is proportional to the amount of storage that the Miner contributes to the Filecoin network, not the hash power.
Retriever miners are the veins of the network. They earn Filecoin by winning bids and mining fees for a specific file, which is determined by the market value of the said file size. Miners bandwidth and recovery / initial transaction response time will determine its ability to close recovery deals on the network.
The maximum bandwidth of the recovery miners will determine the total amount of deals that it can enter into.
In the current implementation, the focus is mostly on storage miners, who sell storage capacity for FIL.

Hardware recommendations

The current system specifications recommended for running the miner are:
Compared to the hardware requirements for running a validity checker, these standards are much higher — although they definitely deserve it. Since these will not increase in the presumed future, the money spent on Filecoin mining hardware will provide users with many years of reliable service, and they pay themselves many times. Think of investing as a small business for cloud storage. To launch a model on the current data hosting model, it will cost millions of dollars in infrastructure and logistics to get started. With Filecoin, you can do the same for a few thousand dollars.
Proceed to mining
Deals are the primary function of the Filecoin network, and it represents an agreement between a client and miners for a “storage” contract.
Once the customer decides to have a miner to store based on the available capacity, duration and price required, he secures sufficient funds in a linked portfolio to cover the total cost of the deal. The deal is then published once the mine accepts the storage agreement. By default, all Filecoin miners are set to automatically accept any deal that meets their criteria, although this can be disabled for miners who prefer to organize their deals manually.
After the deal is published, the customer prepares the data for storage and then transfers it to the miner. Upon receiving all the data, the miner fills in the data in a sector, closes it, and begins to provide proofs to the chain. Once the first confirmation is obtained, the customer can make sure the data is stored correctly, and the deal has officially started.
Throughout the deal, the miner provides continuous proofs to the chain. Clients gradually pay with money they previously closed. If there is missing or late evidence, the miner is punished. More information about this can be found in the Runtime, Cut and Penalties section of this page.
At Filecoin, miners earn two different types of rewards for their efforts: storage fees and reward prevention.
Storage fees are the fees that customers pay regularly after reaching a deal, in exchange for storing data. This fee is automatically deposited into the withdrawal portfolio associated with miners while they continue to perform their duties over time, and is locked for a short period upon receipt.
Block rewards are large sums given to miners calculated on a new block. Unlike storage fees, these rewards do not come from a linked customer; Instead, the new FIL “prints” the network as an inflationary and incentive measure for miners to develop the chain. All active miners on the network have a chance to get a block bonus, their chance to be directly proportional to the amount of storage space that is currently being contributed to the network.
Duration of operation, cutting and penalties
“Slashing” is a feature found in most blockchain protocols, and is used to punish miners who fail to provide reliable uptime or act maliciously against the network.
In Filecoin, miners are susceptible to two different types of cut: storage error cut, unanimously reduce error.
Storage Error Reduction is a term used to include a wider range of penalties, including error fees, sector penalties, and termination fees. Miners must pay these penalties if they fail to provide reliability of the sector or decide to leave the network voluntarily.
An error fee is a penalty that a miner incurs for each non-working day. Sector punishment: A penalty incurred by a miner of a disrupted sector for which no error was reported before the WindowPoSt inspection.
The sector will pay an error fee after the penalty of the sector once the error is discovered.
Termination Fee: A penalty that a miner incurs when a sector is voluntary or involuntarily terminated and removed from the network.
Cutting consensus error is the penalty that a miner incurs for committing consensus errors. This punishment applies to miners who have acted maliciously against the network consensus function.
Filecoin miners
Eight of the top 10 Felticoin miners are Chinese investors or companies, according to the blockchain explorer, while more companies are selling cloud mining contracts and distributed file sharing system hardware. CoinDesk’s Wolfe Chao wrote: “China’s craze for Filecoin may have been largely related to the long-standing popularity of crypto mining in the country overall, which is home to about 65% of the computing power on Bitcoin at discretion.”
With Filecoin approaching the launch of the mainnet blocknet — after several delays since the $ 200 million increase in 2017 — Chinese investors are once again speculating strongly about network mining devices and their premium prices.
Since Protocol Labs, the company behind Filecoin, released its “Test Incentives” program on June 9 that was scheduled to start in a week’s time, more than a dozen Chinese companies have started selling cloud mining contracts and hardware — despite important details such as economics Mining incentives on the main network are still endless.
Sales volumes to date for each of these companies can range from half a million to tens of millions of dollars, according to self-reported data on these platforms that CoinDesk has watched and interviews with several mining hardware manufacturers.
Filecoin’s goal is to build a distributed storage network with token rewards to spur storage hosting as a way to drive wider adoption. Protocol Labs launched a test network in December 2019. But the tokens mined in the testing environment so far are not representative of the true silicon coin that can be traded when the main network is turned on. Moreover, the mining incentive economics on testnet do not represent how final block rewards will be available on the main network.
However, data from Blockecoin’s blocknetin testnet explorers show that eight out of 10 miners with the most effective mining force on testnet are currently Chinese miners.
These eight miners have about 15 petabytes (PB) of effective storage mining power, accounting for more than 85% of the total test of 17.9 petable. For the context, 1 petabyte of hard disk storage = 1000 terabytes (terabytes) = 1 million gigabytes (GB).
Filecoin craze in China may be closely related to the long-standing popularity of crypt mining in the country overall, which is home to about 65% of the computing power on Bitcoin by estimation. In addition, there has been a lot of hype in China about foreign exchange mining since 2018, as companies promote all types of devices when the network is still in development.
“Encryption mining has always been popular in China,” said Andy Tien, co-founder of 1475, one of several mining hardware manufacturers in Philquin supported by prominent Chinese video indicators such as Fenbushi and Hashkey Capital.
“Even though the Velikoyen mining process is more technologically sophisticated, the idea of mining using hard drives instead of specialized machines like Bitcoin ASIC may be a lot easier for retailers to understand,” he said.
Meanwhile, according to Feixiaohao, a Chinese service comparable to CoinMarketCap, nearly 50 Chinese crypto exchanges are often somewhat unknown with some of the more well-known exchanges including Gate.io and Biki — have listed trading pairs for Filecoin currency contracts for USDT.
In bitcoin mining, at the current difficulty level, one segment per second (TH / s) fragmentation rate is expected to generate around 0.000008 BTC within 24 hours. The higher the number of TH / s, the greater the number of bitcoins it should be able to produce proportionately. But in Filecoin, the efficient mining force of miners depends on the amount of data stamped on the hard drive, not the total size of the hard drive.
To close data in the hard drive, the Filecoin miner still needs processing power, i.e. CPU or GPU as well as RAM. More powerful processors with improved software can confine data to the hard drive more quickly, so miners can combine more efficient mining energy faster on a given day.
As of this stage, there appears to be no transparent way at the network level for retail investors to see how much of the purchased hard disk drive was purchased which actually represents an effective mining force.
The U.S.-based Labs Protocol was behind Filecoin’s initial coin offer for 2017, which raised an astonishing $ 200 million.
This was in addition to a $ 50 million increase in private investment supported by notable venture capital projects including Sequoia, Anderson Horowitz and Union Square Ventures. CoinDk’s parent company, CoinDk, has also invested in Protocol Labs.
After rounds of delay, Protocol Protocols said in September 2019 that a testnet launch would be available around December 2019 and the main network would be rolled out in the first quarter of 2020.
The test started as promised, but the main network has been delayed again and is now expected to launch in August 2020. What is Filecoin mining process?
Filecoin mainly consists of three parts: the storage market (the chain), the blockecin Filecoin, and the search market (under the chain). Storage and research market in series and series respectively for security and efficiency. For users, the storage frequency is relatively low, and the security requirements are relatively high, so the storage process is placed on the chain. The retrieval frequency is much higher than the storage frequency when there is a certain amount of data. Given the performance problem in processing data on the chain, the retrieval process under the chain is performed. In order to solve the security issue of payment in the retrieval process, Filecoin adopts the micro-payment strategy. In simple terms, the process is to split the document into several copies, and every time the user gets a portion of the data, the corresponding fee is paid. Types of mines corresponding to Filecoin’s two major markets are miners and warehousers, among whom miners are primarily responsible for storing data and block packages, while miners are primarily responsible for data query. After the stable operation of the major Filecoin network in the future, the mining operator will be introduced, who is the main responsible for data maintenance.
In the initial release of Filecoin, the request matching mechanism was not implemented in the storage market and retrieval market, but the takeover mechanism was adopted. The three main parts of Filecoin correspond to three processes, namely the stored procedure, retrieval process, packaging and reward process. The following figure shows the simplified process and the income of the miners:
The Filecoin mining process is much more complicated, and the important factor in determining the previous mining profit is efficient storage. Effective storage is a key feature that distinguishes Filecoin from other decentralized storage projects. In Filecoin’s EC consensus, effective storage is similar to interest in PoS, which determines the likelihood that a miner will get the right to fill, that is, the proportion of miners effectively stored in the entire network is proportional to final mining revenue.
It is also possible to obtain higher effective storage under the same hardware conditions by improving the mining algorithm. However, the current increase in the number of benefits that can be achieved by improving the algorithm is still unknown.
It seeks to promote mining using Filecoin Discover
Filecoin announced Filecoin Discover — a step to encourage miners to join the Filecoin network. According to the company, Filecoin Discover is “an ever-growing catalog of numerous petabytes of public data covering literature, science, art, and history.” Miners interested in sharing can choose which data sets they want to store, and receive that data on a drive at a cost. In exchange for storing this verified data, miners will earn additional Filecoin above the regular block rewards for storing data. Includes the current catalog of open source data sets; ENCODE, 1000 Genomes, Project Gutenberg, Berkley Self-driving data, more projects, and datasets are added every day.
Ian Darrow, Head of Operations at Filecoin, commented on the announcement:
“Over 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are created every day. This data includes 294 billion emails, 500 million tweets and 64 billion messages on social media. But it is also climatology reports, disease tracking maps, connected vehicle coordinates and much more. It is extremely important that we maintain data that will serve as the backbone for future research and discovery”.
Miners who choose to participate in Filecoin Discover may receive hard drives pre-loaded with verified data, as well as setup and maintenance instructions, depending on the company. The Filecoin team will also host the Slack (fil-Discover-support) channel where miners can learn more.
Filecoin got its fair share of obstacles along the way. Last month Filecoin announced a further delay before its main network was officially launched — after years of raising funds.
In late July QEBR (OTC: QEBR) announced that it had ceded ownership of two subsidiaries in order to focus all of the company’s resources on building blockchain-based mining operations.
The QEBR technology team previously announced that it has proven its system as a Filecoin node valid with CPU, GPU, bandwidth and storage compatibility that meets all IPFS guidelines. The QEBR test system is connected to the main Filecoin blockchain and the already mined filecoin coin has already been tested.
“The disclosure of Sheen Boom and Jihye will allow our team to focus only on the upcoming global launch of Filecoin. QEBR branch, Shenzhen DZD Digital Technology Ltd. (“ DZD “), has a strong background in blockchain development, extraction Data, data acquisition, data processing, data technology research. We strongly believe Filecoin has the potential to be a leading blockchain-based cryptocurrency and will make every effort to make QEBR an important player when Mainecoin mainnet will be launched soon”.
IPFS and Filecoin
Filecoin and IPFS are complementary protocols for storing and sharing data in a decentralized network. While users are not required to use Filecoin and IPFS together, the two combined are working to resolve major failures in the current web infrastructure.
IPFS
It is an open source protocol that allows users to store and transmit verifiable data with each other. IPFS users insist on data on the network by installing it on their own device, to a third-party cloud service (known as Pinning Services), or through community-oriented systems where a group of individual IPFS users share resources to ensure the content stays live.
The lack of an integrated catalytic mechanism is the challenge Filecoin hopes to solve by allowing users to catalyze long-term distributed storage at competitive prices through the storage contract market, while maintaining the efficiency and flexibility that the IPFS network provides.
Using IPFS
In IPFS, the data is hosted by the required data installation nodes. For data to persist while the user node is offline, users must either rely on their other peers to install their data voluntarily or use a central install service to store data.
Peer-to-peer reliance caching data may be a good thing as one or multiple organizations share common files on an internal network, or where strong social contracts can be used to ensure continued hosting and preservation of content in the long run. Most users in an IPFS network use an installation service.
Using Filecoin
The last option is to install your data in a decentralized storage market, such as Filecoin. In Filecoin’s structure, customers make regular small payments to store data when a certain availability, while miners earn those payments by constantly checking the integrity of this data, storing it, and ensuring its quick recovery. This allows users to motivate Filecoin miners to ensure that their content will be live when it is needed, a distinct advantage of relying only on other network users as required using IPFS alone.
Filecoin, powered by IPFS
It is important to know that Filecoin is built on top of IPFS. Filecoin aims to be a very integrated and seamless storage market that takes advantage of the basic functions provided by IPFS, they are connected to each other, but can be implemented completely independently of each other. Users do not need to interact with Filecoin in order to use IPFS.
Some advantages of sharing Filecoin with IPFS:
Of all the decentralized storage projects, Filecoin is undoubtedly the most interested, and IPFS has been running stably for two years, fully demonstrating the strength of its core protocol.
Filecoin’s ability to obtain market share from traditional central storage depends on end-user experience and storage price. Currently, most Filecoin nodes are posted in the IDC room. Actual deployment and operation costs are not reduced compared to traditional central cloud storage, and the storage process is more complicated.
PoRep and PoSt, which has a large number of proofs of unknown operation, are required to cause the actual storage cost to be so, in the early days of the release of Filecoin. The actual cost of storing data may be higher than the cost of central cloud storage, but the initial storage node may reduce the storage price in order to obtain block rewards, which may result in the actual storage price lower than traditional central cloud storage.
In the long term, Filecoin still needs to take full advantage of its P2P storage, convert storage devices from specialization to civil use, and improve its algorithms to reduce storage costs without affecting user experience. The storage problem is an important problem to be solved in the blockchain field, so a large number of storage projects were presented at the 19th Web3 Summit. IPFS is an important part of Web3 visibility. Its development will affect the development of Web3 to some extent. Likewise, Web3 development somewhat determines the future of IPFS. Filecoin is an IPFS-based storage class project initiated by IPFS. There is no doubt that he is highly expected.

TL;DR Every Gun's Meta Role + Some Modding

Lowest Recoil for 545, 556, and 7.62x39 guns : https://i.imgur.com/E9ruaAJ.png

[Ctrl + F to find stuff]

Edit:
There seems to be some misunderstandings about objective facts about tarkov. Anecdotal experiences you’ve had do not change how the mechanics behave. Not penning lets say, a 6B47 with M61, doesn’t mean m61 won’t pen a 6B47. We know the pen chance of M61 on any given piece of armor, and just because you received an unlikely result does not mean it’s the only result. Similarly rephrasing otherwise damning statements doesn’t change the objective situation. Saying something such as “___ gun shreds armor with ___ ammo” is just a different way of saying “If I take the time to shoot the armor to the point of it no longer behaving as its armor class, then my bullets will go through it”. And I’ll concede you can indeed do that. But shooting an armor several times before your bullets go through doesn’t mean its equivalent to using bullets that go through the armor in the first place.
There also seems to be a misunderstanding on what makes a gun good. Most guns will kill someone if you correctly aim and left click on someone’s face. That’s the bare minimum for a gun to be useable in tarkov. Just because you have used a gun which can do that doesn’t make it good. If one can simply shoot someone in the face with the first bullet, they fire then what’s the point of bringing something other than a Makarov. We bring in better guns to make up for other short comings. Yes, if you shoot someone’s gen 4 6 times with 7.62x39 BP you will go through it. But that guy in the gen 4 can only has to shoot you twice because he brought competitive ammo. Don’t handicap yourself then say I’m spreading misinformation because if you just pretend a handicap isn’t there then then game is different from what I’m saying… also ap slugs suck.

---------------------------------------------------------

Every Gun's Meta Role

Guns with a purpose:
AK-74 / AK-74N: Only has a place in 2 scenarios. Long range medium kit and any range high kit. In high kit the gun will cost 100k but will have the lowest recoil of the automatic ARs. BS and PP isn’t as expensive as 995 and M856A1. For high kit the 74 is 2nd best if money is no problem but if you do even remotely care about money then this is the most reasonable high kit gun. If lvl 6 armor for some reason becomes abundant in the future then this will be the best gun because igolnik. Yes m61 will go through lvl 6 but the FAL nerf means it has too much recoil for mid range and the m1a is semi auto which kinda nips the whole “2 stk > 3 stk” in the bud.
HK-416: 2nd lowest AR recoil. A maxed one of these is cheaper than a maxed m4 but has ~8 more vert reocil.
M4A1: Well my reference m4 did a mega-morphin stat change. The best recoil AR in the game. A maxed M4 is very very expensive and using it suppressed borks the recoil.
Bolt actions: All of the bolt actions are currently just very very bad vepr hunters. However quests are a thing and there’s very clearly one vastly superior bolt action and it issssss a sniper mosin with the non-blue tape obrez stock and the 514mm barrel. Its accurate and its very light. Recoil doesn’t matter, ergo kinda matters but not nearly as much as weight. If you don't like the PU scope then you can use the “arbalet patriot K+W mount” and just use any sight you want without the rendering issues of the tri-rail. Only in tarkov will the objectively cheapest gun in a class be the best. Cough ak-74 cough.
Vepr Hunter: M80 strong so gun strong. It one taps to the chest, is accurate, has no rof cap, can go through lvl 4, the 10 round mags are 1 slot, and you can get it for like 25-35k off the market. Its just stupid good. Is it better than a m1a, rsass or FAL? No. Is it way better than the mosin, saiga-12, mp-153, mr-133, m870, ash-12, sv-98, m-700, DVL, and SVD? Yeah.
MP-7: Best CQC gun for medium kit (anti-lvl 3) because FMJ is very cheap, the bitcoin trade lets you get 40k MP7s, and the recoil is lower than any gun of equivalent price. The only exceptions are the VSS and p-90 which you can use for about the same price (given you can get a 50k p-90 and a 40k VSS) However the VSS mags are either stupid expensive or too small and the p-90 has too much horizontal recoil. Yes the p-90 has less vertical recoil but only your mom is wider than she is tall and she’s not a scav boss yet.
PP-19: One of the three “competitive” budget guns. It's cheap, has maxed ak-74 levels of recoil(with a recoil pad), is automatic, and has no pen whatsoever. Face shots or go home.
Saiga-12: Best “shot” shotgun and one of three “competitive” budget guns. There’s a rof cap now but its vepr 136 levels so for a gun with a 20 round mag max, its not “too much” of a problem. If you’re running factory then maybe flechette could work but holy shit with the lack of limb pen and the 19 damage per dart (152 damage if all land) you’ll be shooting the fuck out of people before they die. I think the best example of how this feels was a raid where I killed one scav and it took 29 hits to kill that one unarmored scav. Honestly just use magnum and go for face shots. 1 pellet to the face can kill so it just a matter of spamming in the general upper torso direction and hoping RNG gives you a head/face shot. That sounds really stupid but throwing those dice is surprisingly dependable.
Vepr-136: One of the three “competitive” budget guns. If you need range and don’t mind giving up recoil and an automatic switch for armor pen then this is your jam. Grab one of these for 15k off the market, slap a butt-pad, m1b, and dynacomp on it, grab a handful of 30s with T45 for the cost of a slightly worn t-shirt, and you’re good to go. The only thing that really holds this gun back is the oversampling cap. I click at ~450 clicks per min and I slam right into that cap and get ~100-150 rpm out of it. Its really awful. That paired with the RoF link to FPS and you can imagine why taking this into cqc could be a bad idea.
AKMS / AKMSN: Only good for budget builds. Because the ammo is cheap you can spend more money on attachments. But the amount of money you would spend on attachments is so much, you might as well buy a better gun. I wouldn’t bother modding beyond a recoil pad, dynacomp, and M1B and pretending its a vepr-136 that can go full auto for CQC.
ADAR: Crazy good right now. 15k for a rec battery gets you a gun that reloads like lighting, who’s accurate, who’s ammo punches through lvl 4 for 191 rubles a pop with good recoil out of the box and has no rof cap (aside from the FPS limiting it of course).
FAL / M1A: Since the FAL was nerfed and the M80 wont go through full condition lvl 5, these don’t have a role in high kit. In medium kit however these are a nice alternative to the ak-74 or vepr hunter. They cost about 40-50k because of trades and they have access to large cheap mags. If you have a M1A then its fine as is, just put on a side mount. If you have an FAL put on a baskak and an extreme duty dust cover(if you did the NIXX trade then dont forget to rebuy the austrian muzzle break).
Makarov: One of two reasonably accurate pistols in game. If you’re going to carry a pistol as backup, carry this for face taps.
Saiga-9: Instead of doing pistol runs, do saiga-9 runs. No one will steal it, you can get it for the same price, you got 30s, and the recoil is only 47-195. For context a Makarov is 510-325 (and yes, that's five hundred and ten vertical recoil)
Kedr / Klin: probably my 2nd most used gun behind the 153 and…. Its pretty good for a 10-15k gun. Its cheap, it shoots cheap ammo, it has 1 slot 20 rounders, it has weird recoil / point of impact , and it sucks. If you wanna to pistol runs, do kedr runs instead.

-------------------------------------------------

Bad Guns (for the price / in comparison to other guns)

AKS-74U: Literally, the only reason to ever use this gun is because its funny or because you want a gun that’s very cheap, functionally accurate, automatic, and has cheap 30 round mags. If you consider using something other than FMJ in it then you would better spend your money buying an AKS-74 or AK-74M for 5k extra(or sometimes the same price). The only reasonable plays you can make are face shot barrel stuffs or tippy taps at range. Even automatic fire at like 15m has so much horizontal recoil that its basically useless. And if you spend the money to get the recoil down you might as well just buy a better gun and get low recoil that way. The only time the 74U can be remotely competitive is using it as a head tap DMR but even then you could use any other AK or adar for about the same price.
AKS-74 / AKS-74N / AK-74M/ AK-105 : These are basically just an AK-74 but slightly worse and occasionally cheaper. Just sell it or lightly mod it and use PP. If you dont have the money for PP then just use a PP-19.
AKM / AKMN: Its the best 7.62x39 gun in game and its just bad. It costs too much, the good ammo costs too much and doesn’t have enough pen for the price, and it has unacceptable recoil. There’s no reason to ever use this unless you can’t stand high recoil and must use a fully modded akm for that shoreline scav kill quest.
AK-103/AK-104: Imagine an AKM that’s worse and costs slightly less. Just dont.
AK-101 / AK-102: These are just meme / rp guns. They’re a better option than the AKM / AK-103 / AK-104 but that’s not saying much. They’re just expensive and have too much recoil. If you cannot stand the semi-auto of the adar these might be the only reasonable non-7.62x51 automatic for anti-lvl 4 because M855A1 is so dirt cheap.
SKS: A bad vepr-136 with the exception of having a higher RoF cap. Mags are stupid expensive, mags take forever to reload, and the recoil is stupid high. If you’re a sperg and can’t wrap your head around mags then do the filter trade, put a DTK-1 on an adapter, fill your pockets with T45 and you’re all ready to feed that sks to the next pmc you meet.
SVD: Its a bad M1A. Its too expensive, the mags cost too much, and it has a rof cap. No reason to use it other than the quest. Honestly, I’d take a vepr hunter over it because at least then I can spam in CQC.
MDR: So you can grab these for 40-50k on the market and after an RK-2 and Bulletec you’ll have the recoil of a maxed AKM with like 45 more horizontal recoil. So 80k for an extra shakey AKM in 556. So basically its useless, juse an ak-74.
TX-15: expensive adar with very slightly better recoil. If you care that much about recoil then just build an HK-416A5
MP-153: The only good slug shotgun and it sucks. People like it because you dont have to fiddle fuck with mags but the rof cap + the giga-longness + the slow reloads means CQC is is awful. Which means its only place in the meta is slugs and then its just a bad vepr hunter. But not like a “90% of the way there” bad, its a “30% of the way there” bad. I’ve probably used a 153 with slugs more than any other weapon in tarkov over these 7 or so wipes I’ve played and the whole time I’ve held the opinion that fucking christ the 153 with slugs sucks but lord is it fun. But with the CMS kits and the mosin and the vepr hunter. The allure of being a little shitling scuttling about has lost its charm. Breaking people’s arms and legs at range isn’t a raid ruiner, the mosin can do 1 shot chest taps now, and so can the vepr hunter. Its just not a vile bog of misery anymore. It’s just an underperforming gun that has been power creeped out of any relevance.
MP-133: bad mp-153. it literally don't even have iron sights
M870: mp-133 but expensive
Toz: is toz
Grach: imagine a saiga-9 but expensive and people can steal it easier
P226R: Imagine a grach but for people who wanna play dress up.
Glock 17: Imagine a P226R but for people who really really wanna play dress up.
Glock 18: Was pretty oppressive back when RIP could 3 shot your legs but now its just a DPS meme like it is in real life.
Shrimp: imagine a 5-7 but cheap and with no 1 tap chest hollow points. This is probably your best bet for the pistol kill quest.
5-7: imagine a shrimp but expensive and with hollow points that can 1 tap a chest. “But can’t all 9mm pistols do that?” ….yes but they’re half the price of RIP.
P-90: surprisingly similar in budget to the mp-7 but with less vertical recoil but more horizontal recoil and 50s instead of 30s…. So basically the p90 sucks.
MPX / MP5: mil-sim scum. In all seriousness they just cost so much for being such limp guns. I know people are SUPER FUCKING HYPED FOR AP 6.3 !?!??! but its just PMM with less damage. It wont ever got through a lvl 3 armor for christ sake.
TT: a makarov but it costs more and can go through lvl 2.
M9A3: sounds cool
APS: russian g18 that can’t use 9mm RIP. sucks
APB: Didn’t get nerfed with the APS so its a giga-cheap suppressed gun. But it handles like a shitty kedr and the kedr already handles like shit so keep that in mind.
RSASS: inflated price because of the quest, prob will never be viable until it gets a better mag or the M1A gets a recoil nerf.
VSS: imagine a AS VAL but you dont get that AR skill recoil reduction…. But its cheap. Its actually stupid cheap when you consider how much recoil it has and that SP-5 is basically 5.45 PP. You can get an AK-74 with a PBS-4 for 40k, and you can get an VSS for 40k, but you cannot get a suppressed AK-74 with VSS recoil for 40k, or 100k. The only thing holding the VSS back is the drop on it is stupid. I could go on a long hot ramble on how it could be fixed and how the way tarkov handles balistics calculations is dumb but that would take way too long. Basically only use it with sights that can zero to 25m and you’ll be fine unless you try to shoot at something beyond 50m.
AS-VAL: a slightly better VSS (because AR skill) but it costs 50-100% more
MP5K: bad kedr
Kedr-B: suppressed kedr that costs 25-30k
RPK: The recoil stats are basically the same as the AK-74 but maxed they both cost the same and the AK-74 gets recoil reduction from the AR skill so there’s just no reason to bother. The RPK is heavier, shoots at the same RPM, will have more ingame recoil, and sounds dumb.
Vepr-209: bad
Ash-12: unbelievably bad. Maybe if it was 20k from a trader and the ammo / mags were cheaper it might have a place in the meta. But that role would be a shitty vepr hunter that’s cheap.

PB: 25k silenced makarov…. Yeah naw
PM (t): fireball machine

------------------------------------------------------------

Modding:

I’m only going to cover the guns with a meta purpose that I didn’t mention how to mod in the above section.
M4A1 Max: (if I dont mention a part, its stock)
Pistol Grip: Ergo PSG-1 (only for ergo)
Stock: HK E1 (or BUS if you dont care about ergo)
Buffer Tube: Advanced (red has more accuracy)
Muzzle Break : Bulletek ST-6012 or AAC Blackout and SDN-6 (same recoil)
Backup sightst: Magpul MBUS Gen 2 (only for ergo)
Handguard: SAI QD Rail(long) + Jail Break
Foregrip: RK-2
Charging Handle: Raptor (only for ergo)
Barrel: 370mm
Upper: MUR
If you really care about min maxing you can put a cobra red dot on for an extra -1% recoil
HK 416A5 Max: (if I dont mention a part, its stock)
Pistol Grip: Ergo PSG-1 (only for ergo)
Stock: HK E1 (or BUS if you dont care about ergo)
Muzzle Break : Bulletek ST-6012 or AAC Blackout and SDN-6 (same recoil)
Backup sightst: Magpul MBUS Gen 2 (only for ergo)
Handguard: MRS 14" keymod
Foregrip: RK-2
Charging Handle: Raptor (only for ergo)
Barrel: 20”
If you really care about min maxing you can put a cobra red dot on for an extra -1% recoil
AK-74 Max (AKM is the same except for the lantac muzzle break)
Pistol Grip: US Palm (rk-3 weighs more)
Stock: Zhukov-S
Muzzle Break : CQB or PBS-4 to be suppressed (is 7% worse)
Dust Cover: Fab Defence PDC (highest ergo dust cover rail)
Handguard: CMRD
Foregrip: RK-2
Charging Handle: Extended (only for ergo)
https://i.imgur.com/siZK34s.png
The sweet spot is about the Zhukov-S + CQB + RK-0 + poly 100 has 58-153 recoil (which is about a maxed ak-105 but for 57k)
I used to determine the data points by an increasing budget but now I do it by the price / recoil gain of each next part. So buying a polymer stock costs more / recoil than the zhukov so I just skipped it. Also why I skipped to just using the RK-0.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Ammo Meta:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jjWcIue0_PCsbLQAiL5VrIulPK8SzM5jjiCMx9zUuvE/htmlview?sle=true
Damage thresholds: 35 (1 tap to the head), 40 (2 tap the chest), 60 (break arms in 1 shot), and 80 (1 tap chest).
What we can derive from this is Magnum buckshot can kill with one pellet to the head. Igolnik won’t 2 tap. T45 will break arms in 1 shot so you can flinch people. M80, LPS, and 7N1 will 1 tap to the chest.
You should really derive your own conclusions about the ammo, this is just what I use.
anti-Lvl 3:
T45 for 7.62x39 for 70 rubles (PS isn’t a tracer but ps costs more and won't 1 shot arms)
PP for 5.45x39 for 152 rubles
M855A1 for 5.56 for 191 rubles(yes this is an anti-lvl 4 ammo, but m856a1 costs more than this)
SP-5 for 9x39 for 142 rubles
FMJ for 4.6 for 134 rubles
SS190 for 5.7 for 147 rubles
M80 for 7.62x39 for 237 rubles (also goes through lvl 4, there’s just no lower tier ammo)
LPS for 7.62x54R for 189 rubles (I just use 7n1 tbh)
Anti-lvl 4
M855A1 for 5.56 for 191 rubles
M80 for 7.62x51 for 237 rubles
7n1 for 7.62x54R for 322 rubles
Sp6, 7.62x39 BP, and AP SX cost too much to be considered for such an irrelevant threshold. Though its more relevant than previous patches due to the abundance of lvl 4. Though they’re usually pretty damaged.
Anti-lvl 5
5.45x39 BS for 554 rubles
The meta is just 5.45 BS or pay out the ass for sub-par return on investment.
5.56 995 for 800 rubles
9x39 BP is trade only, usually 1,000 rubles on the market
Not sure how much m61 costs yet, not worth it regardless and m62 is the same story.

Useful Beginner's Guide to Syscoin

What is Syscoin?

Some have described Syscoin (SYS) as the Shopify, Amazon and Ebay of the blockchain world. Syscoin is a revolutionary cryptocurrency that offers near zero cost financial transactions, incredible speed and provides businesses the infrastructure to trade goods, assets, digital certificates and data securely. Syscoin isn’t just about money and trading, it has the ability to attract various business types thanks to its native set of features geared towards business on the blockchain. From eBay traders and High Street shops to Medical applications, Insurance and Gaming, Syscoin’s decentralized network benefits everyone!   Syscoin is developed by Blockchain Foundry (BF). BF provides blockchain technology based services, projects and products for a wide variety of use cases with the stated aim of disrupting markets by leveraging the potential of blockchain technology. Syscoin is mainly known to be the first cryptocurrency to offer a fully decentralized marketplace based on blockchain. What is lesser known is that this is only a part of what Syscoin offers.   With the introduction of Masternodes in February or March 2018 SYS will be transformed from just a ’marketplace coin’ to a completely ‘utilitarian coin’. The Masternode infrastructure allows the addition of decentralized databases and file storage, increased transaction speed to surpass POS/Visa/Mastercard capabilities, true Turing complete smart contract capabilities for unlimited business logic, sidechains, application layers and an identity layer. This will all be accessible through an API, rather than a new language, enabling nearly any developer to create any blockchain application they can conceive. This will usher in the next generation of blockchain applications - made for new or existing businesses - by conveniently offering everything available from the blockchain space today. In simple terms think Dash + Ethereum/Lisk + Monero + Nano + Storj + Particl capabilities all in one coin!

SYS Origin

The blockchain as conceptualized by Satoshi Nakamoto back in 2008 envisioned a peer-to-peer electronic cash network that would prevent double-spending. A year later, the blockchain became an integral part of bitcoin, serving as the latter's public ledger of transactions. Although Nakamoto's reference client mentioned a decentralized marketplace service, the subsequent implementation did not incorporate this due to a lack of resources.   Syscoin was initially described in a 2014 draft whitepaper that envisioned Decentralized Marketplace Creation, Decentralized Smart Contracts and Documents, Decentralized Certificate Issuance and Transfer, and Decentralized Data Storage and Retrieval, as among the services that it would offer upon its release.   Syscoin aimed to bring Nakamoto's vision of a decentralized marketplace back into the blockchain, among the other commercial-grade services it aims to deliver to clients. Other services that Syscoin plans to provide include secure data storage and transfer, and unique user aliases that link their owners to the services controlled by the alias.   The early Syscoin wallet was superseded by the release of Blockmarket Desktop 1.0 on September 12, 2017, marking the culmination of Syscoin's vision of a fully decentralized marketplace with a desktop GUI based on the blockchain.   The planned release of Blockmarket Web, a fully web-based version, and Blockmarket Professional in 2018 takes that vision one step further, as more advanced seller stores become a reality.

The Team

The Team that NEVER quits! Before the launch of Syscoin (Q3 2014), there was a presale ICO by Moolah (as a partner), which turned out to be detrimental for Syscoin. The project raised around 1,000BTC for development but the Syscoin Team only managed to access 250BTC which were used for price support. Moolah (Ryan Kennedy) absconded with the bulk of the ICO funds and the Syscoin team were left with ~30million Syscoin at a price around 400 satoshi. Even after this tragic event, the devs didn’t quit and continued to work on the project without stopping. The case against Moolah is still on-going. See the article from CoinDesk here: http://www.coindesk.com/uk-court-syscoin-injunction-moolah-750-btc/.   What is this detail telling us about the dev team? While some crypto projects are just scams and bring little to no innovation, they’ve proven that they are in it for the long term - ably demonstrated by the fact that they continued to work despite their funds being stolen. And now that hard work is beginning to pay off with the entire team going full-time for the first time in January 2018 and new developers being hired following VC funding for BF.

What is Blockmarket Desktop?

Building on the World's First Decentralized Marketplace, Blockmarket is the newest generation of Syscoin's Desktop wallet with a complete, state-of-the-art marketplace built-in where you can securely and reliably buy and sell any items you wish. Entire stores can be created directly through the marketplace where you can sell your own products or re-sell others’ products for commission. Use of blockchain technology eliminates middlemen, credit card fees, maintenance fees, downtime and political interference. Persons are literally able to buy or sell anything to anyone, anytime, anywhere on Earth! Blockmarket Desktop was launched on September 12, 2017. Download Blockmarket Desktop 1.2

Key Blockmarket Features

- Decentralized Marketplace

The marketplace platform provides a decentralized and high redundant channel for selling goods and services. Features include: • Price Pegging to currencies such as USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, CNY and BTC • Bitcoin and Zcash as payment options • Arbitrated Escrow • Encrypted Messaging • KYC/AML Compliance • Images • Unlimited Inventory Items

- Name Aliases

Wallet addresses for cryptocurrencies generally consist of a unique string of between 27-34 alphanumeric characters. Such an address isn’t easy to memorize. Although the addresses can be added to an address book within the wallet, Syscoin has taken the user's convenience one step further, allowing you to create a unique Alias for your wallet address, such as a name, title, or characters specific to a username. These can be used to send SYS from home, to a mobile wallet, to work, to friends, to common suppliers or to repeat customers easily, without requiring any memorizing, writing it down, copy & pasting or emailing yourself the address.

- Digital Certificates

Using the cryptography of the blockchain persons can issue, authorize, and exchange digital certificates of any kind. With Syscoin anyone can issue provably-unique certificates with text or ASCII content to one or multiple parties on the Syscoin blockchain. These certificates can be authenticated by anyone via Syscoin’s cryptographic proof of work. This allows for the creation and free exchange of any kind of digital asset such as ownership certificates, warranties, receipts, tickets, certifications, diplomas, software licenses and more.

- Integrated Exchanges

Integrated Crypto exchanges - Flypme and Changelly will facilitate exchanging 30+ cryptos for SYS, directly within the Blockmarket wallet.

- Security Audit Verified

Blockmarket was successfully and independently security audited by Digital Boundary Group and was deemed low risk. View Audit Results.

Blockmarket Web – (The Key to Mass Adoption)

BM web will bring SYS’s existing decentralized marketplace and all its features into a web-based version, enabling ease of use with a simple email and password login (grandma friendly) without any need for downloading a wallet or waiting for sync. Blockmarket web will be launched in Q1 2018.   This launch will be accompanied by a marketing campaign roll-out that seeks to build brand recognition with audiences within the existing crypto ecosystem and more significantly with the broader, global, non-crypto audience. For this reason Ballistic Arts, a full-service marketing agency was retained by BF. BF Engages Marketing Agency

Primary Target Market + Value Potential

The primary target market for BF’s Syscoin/Blockmarket web flagship is the retail e-commerce industry. This sets up their decentralized marketplace to rival such commercial giants as Amazon ($648B market cap), Alibaba ($453B market cap) and eBay ($43B market cap). According to eMarketer’s Worldwide Retail and Ecommerce Sales report, global retail e-commerce sales for 2017 were $2.3 Trillion. This is expected to reach an estimated $4 Trillion by 2020 reflecting the rapid growth within this sector.   To perform a very simple assessment of the Syscoin/Blockmarket web’s potential let’s assume that a 1% portion of the forecasted $4 trillion market is captured, which represents $40 billion in revenue. Assuming a sales to market cap ratio of 1:1 for simplicity, the circulating supply of 531 million SYS, with a $40 billion market cap yields a price of roughly $75 per coin. However, with masternodes that limit the circulating supply and token utility that extends beyond retail e-commerce, the SYS price could likely reach much higher. Please note that these are just very simple assumptions and projections for this exercise, however the real world driven potential that this project has is clearly evident.

Key Syscoin Developments

- Z-DAG: Zero Confirmation Transactions with Double Spend Protection (WORLD’S FIRST)

View Developer’s Twitter post View Syscoin’s Twitter post

- Masternodes

Ability for world-class transactions-per-second performance to scale-out with added nodes (theoretically 100k TPS per 1000 Masternodes, 300k TPS/3k masternodes, etc). In later releases, masternodes will also process smart contracts and facilitate sharded+encrypted offchain file-storage (with onchain anchors), among other touted functionality. They should also result in steadying the price movements - less volatility as holding will be incentivized.

- Masternode Rewards + Min. Hardware Specs

Masternode Rewards + Min. Hardware Specs Masternode ROI Calculator

- Smart Contracts

Scalable Ethereum Virtual Machine: Allows Turin complete smart contracts to be executed following the ethereum protocol at a much faster speed and at a fraction of the ethereum gas price.

- Assets & Token Issuance

With its token issuance service, Syscoin allows anyone to create a custom asset token which can then be sent directly to anyone else on the network. This facilitates a variety of use cases including ICO token issuance, supply chain management, reward points, and loyalty programs.

- Anonymous Transactions

Anonymous transactions: via mixing/shuffling at user-specified denomination. Afterwards, additional tech will be added in the near future which will further compound the degree of anonymity provided -Add ValueShuffle running on top of the masternode layer and you have the world's most advanced privacy tech in any coin. This brings true money fungibility to Syscoin and the missing link for true economic sovereignty. View Developer’s Twitter post.

- Instant Send

Transactions can be sent and received instantly. This represents a similar sending capability as Dash, but is a step beyond- A type of backend node locking will allow an instantly received sum to be sent immediately, without delay, and without network risk of double-spend.

23, first real job out of college, need help finalizing my financial plan

I graduated college in May, and I started my first full-time job in July. I’ve been paying much more attention to my finances since I’ve started having both real income and real expenses for the first time in my life. Since the new year I’ve been tracking all of my expenses to try to generate an accurate budget for myself -- see where I’m currently spending my money and assess how I want to be spending my money and adjust my habits accordingly. Here’s where I’m at right now:

Demographics

Goals

Income

Expenses

Debts

Investments

Long-Term Investments
Short-Term Investments

Checking Account

TL;DR

Is my investment strategy appropriate for my situation? Am I balancing retirement, short-term savings, and debt repayment appropriately?
Any feedback at all on the way I'm handling my finances is greatly appreciated
Thanks!

new england patriot has been created

By Katharine Brush Night Club PROMPTLY at quarter of ten P.M. Mrs. Brady descended the steps of the Elevated. She purchased from the newsdealer in the cubbyhole be- neath them a next month's magazine and an tomorrow morning's paper and, with these tucked under one plump arm, she walked. She walked two blocks north on Sixth Avenue; turned and went west. But not far west. Westward half a block only, to the place where the gay green awning marked "Club Français" paints a stripe of shade across the glimmer- ing sidewalk. Under the awning Mrs. Brady halted briefly, to remark to the six-foot doorman that it looked like rain and to await his perform- ance of his professional duty. When the small green door yawned open, she sighed deeply and plodded in. The foyer was a blackness, an air- less velvet blackness like the inside of a jeweler's box. Four drum-shaped lamps of golden silk suspended from the ceiling gave it light (a very little) and formed the jewels: gold signets, those, or cuff links for a giant. At the far end of the foyer there were black stair, faintly dusty, rippling upward toward an amber radiance. Mrs. Brady approached and ponderously mounted the stairs, clinging with one fist to the mangy velvet rope that railed their edge. From the top, Miss Lena Levin observed the ascent. Miss Levin was the checkroom girl. She had dark-at- the roots blonde hair and slender hips upon which, in moments of leisure, she wore her hands, like buckles of ivory loosely attached. This was a moment of leisure. Miss Levin waited behind her counter. Row upon row of hooks, empty as yet, and seeming to beckon——wee curved fingers of iron——waited be- hind her. "Late," said Miss Levin, "again." "Go wan!" said Mrs. Brady. "It's only ten to ten. Whew! Them stairs!" She leaned heavily, sideways, against Miss Levin's counter, and, applying one palm to the region of her heart, appeared at once to listen and to count. "Feel!" she cried then in a pleased voice. Miss Levin obediently felt. "Them stairs," continued Mrs. Brady darkly, "with my bad heart, will be the death of me. Whew! Well, dearie? What's the news?" "You got a paper," Miss Levin languidly reminded her. "Yeah!" agreed Mrs. Brady with sudden vehemence. "I got a paper!" She slapped it upon the counter. "An' a lot of time I'll get to read my paper, won't I now? On a Saturday night!" She moaned. "Other nights is bad enough, dear knows——but Saturday nights! How I dread 'em! Every Saturday night I say to my daughter, I say, 'Geraldine, I can't,' I say, 'I can't go through it again, an' that's all there is to it,' I say. 'I'll quit!' I say. An' I will, too!" added Mrs. Brady firmly, if indefinitely. Miss Levin, in defense of Saturday nights, mumbled some vague some- thing about tips. "Tips!" Mrs. Brady hissed it. She almost spat it. Plainly money was nothing, nothing at all, to this lady. "I just wish," said Mrs. Brady, and glared at Miss Levin, "I just wish you had to spend one Saturday night, just one in that dressing room! Bein' pushed an' stepped on and near knocked down by that gang of hussies, an' them orderin' an' bossin' you round like you was black, an' usin' your things an' then sayin' they're sorry, they got no change, they'll be back. Yeah! They never come back!" "There's Mr. Costello," whispered Miss Levin through lips that, like a ventriloquist's, scarcely stirred. "An' as I was sayin'," Mrs. Brady said at once brightly, "I got to leave you. Ten to ten, time I was on the job." She smirked at Miss Levin, nodded, and right-about-faced. There, indeed, Mr. Costello was. Mr. Billy Costello, manager, proprietor, monarch of all he surveyed. From the doorway of the big room where the little tables herded in a ring around the waxen floor, he surveyed Mrs. Brady, and in such a way that Mrs. Brady, momentarily forgetting her bad heart, walked fast, scurried faster, almost ran. The door of her domain was set politely in an alcove, beyond silken curtains looped up at the sides. Mrs. Brady reached it breathless, shoul- dered it open, and groped for the electric switch. Lights sprang up, a bright white blaze, intolerable for an instant to the eyes, like the sun on snow. Blinking, Mrs. Brady shut the door. The room was a spotless, white- tiled place, half beauty shop, half dressing room. Along one wall stood washstands, sturdy triplets in a row, balloons afloat above them. Against the opposite wall there was a couch. A third wall backed an elongated glass-topped dressing-table; and over the dressing-table and over the wash- stands long rectangular sheets of mirror reflected lights, doors, glossy tiles, lights multiplied. . . . Mrs. Brady moved across this glit- ter like a think dark cloud in a hurry. At the dressing table she came to a halt, and upon it she laid her news- paper, her magazine, and her purse ——a black purse worn gray with much clutching. She divested herself of a rusty black coat and a hat of the mushroom persuasion, and hung both up in a corner cupboard which she opened by means of one of a quite preposterous bunch of keys. From a nook in the cupboard she took down a lace-edged handkerchief with long streamers. She untied the streamers and tied them again around her chunky black alpaca waist. The handkerchief became an apron's baby cousin. Mrs. Brady relocked the cupboard door, fumbled her key ring over, and unlocked a capacious drawer of the dressing table. She spread a fresh towel on the plate-glass top, in the geometrical center, and upon the towel she arranged with care a pro- cession of things fished from the drawer. Things for the hair. Things for the complexion. Tings for the eyes, the lashes, the brows, the lips, and the fingernails. Things in boxes and things in jars and things in tubes and tins. Also an ash tray, matches pins, a tiny sewing kit, a pair of scissors. Last of all, a hand-printed sign, a nudging sort of sign: NOTICE! THESE ARTICLES, PLACED HERE FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE, ARE THE PROPERTY OF THE MAID. And directly beneath the sign, prop- ping it up against the looking glass, a china saucer, in which Mrs. Brady now slyly laid decoy money: two quarters and two dimes, in four- leaf-clover formation. Another drawer of the dressing table yielded a bottle of Bromo- seltzer, a bottle of aromatic spirits of ammonia, a tin of sodium bicar- bonate, and a teaspoon. These were lined up on a shelf above the couch. Mrs. Brady was ready for anything. And (from the grim, thin pucker of her mouth) expecting it. Music came to her ears. Rather, the beat of music, muffled, rhythmic, remote. Umpa-um, umpa-um, umpa- um-umm——Mr. "Fiddle" Baer and his band, hard at work on the first fox- trot of the night. It was teasing, foot- tapping music; but the large solemn feet of Mrs. Brady were still. She sat on the couch and opened her newspaper; and for some moments she read uninterruptedly, with spe- cial attention to the murders, the divorces, the breaches of promise, the funnies. Then the door swung inward, ad- mitting a blast of Mt. Fiddle Baer's best, a whiff of perfume, and a girl. Mrs. Brady put her paper away. The girl was petite and darkly beautiful; wrapped in fur and mounted on tall jeweled heels. She entered humming the ragtime song the orchestra was playing, and while she stood near the dressing table, stripping off her gloves, she con- tinued to hum it softly to her self: Oh, I know my baby loves me, I can tell my baby loves me. Here the dark girl got the left glove off, and Mrs. Brady glimpsed a platinum wedding ring. 'Cause there ain't no maybe In my baby's Eyes. The right glove came off. The dark little girl sat down in one of the chairs that faced the dressing table. She doffed her wrap, casting it care- lessly over the chair back. It had a cloth-of--gold lining, and the name of a Paris house was embroidered in curlicues on the label. Mrs. Brady hovered solicitously near. The dark little girl, still humming looked over the articles. "placed here for your convenience," and picked up the scissors. Having cut off a very small hangnail with the air of one performing a perilous major oper- ation, she seized and used the mani- cure buffer, and after that the eye- brow pencil. Mrs. Brady's mind, hopefully calculating the tip, jumped and jumped again like a taxi meter. Oh, I know my baby loves me——— The dark little girl applied powder and lipstick belonging to herself. She examined the result searchingly in the mirror and sat back, satisfied. She cast some silver Klink! Klink! into Mrs. Brady's saucer, and half rose. Then remembering something, she settled down again. The ensuing thirty seconds were spent by her in pulling off her platinum wedding ring, tying it in a corner of a lace handkerchief, and tucking the handkerchief down the bodice of her tight white velvet gown. "There!" she said. She swooped up her wrap and trotted toward the door, jeweled heels merrily twinkling. 'Cause there ain't no maybe——— The door fell shut. Almost instantly it opened again, and another girl came in. A blonde, this. She was very pretty in a round-eyed, doll-like way; but Mrs. Brady, re- garding her, mentally grabbed the spirits of ammonia bottle. For she looked terribly ill. The round eyes were dull, the pretty silly little face was drawn. The thin hands, picking at the fastenings of a specious beaded bag, trembled and twitched. Mrs. Brady cleared her throat. "Can I do something for you, miss?" Evidently the blonde girl had be- lieved herself alone in the dressing room. She started violently and glanced up, panic in her eyes. Panic, and something else. Something very like murderous hate——but for an in- stant only, so that Mrs. Brady, whose perceptions were never quick, missed it altogether. "A glass of water?" suggested Mrs. Brady. "No," said the girl, "no." She had one hand in the beaded bag now. Mrs. Brady could see it moving, causing the bag to squirm like a live thing and the fringe to shiver. "Yes!" she cried abruptly. "A glass of water ——please——you get it for me." She dropped on to the couch. Mrs. Brady scurried to the water cooler in the corner, pressed the spigot with a determined thumb. Water trickled out thinly. Mrs. Brady pressed harder, and scowled, and thought, "Something's wrong with this thing. I mustn't forget, next time I see Mr. Costello———" When again she faced her patient, the patient was sitting erect. She was thrusting her clenched hand back into the beaded bag again. She took only a sip of the water, but it seemed to help her quite miraculously. Almost at once color came to her cheeks, life to her eyes. She grew young again——as young as she was. She smiled up at Mrs. Brady. "Well!" she exclaimed. "What do you know about that!" She shook her honey-colored head. "I can't imagine what came over me." "Are you better now?" inquired Mrs. Brady. Yes. Oh, yes, I'm better now. You see," said the blonde girl confiden- tially, "we were at the theater, my boy friend and I, and it was hot and stuffy——I guess that must have been the trouble." She paused, and the ghost of her recent distress crossed her face. God! I thought that last act never would end!" she said. While she attended to her hair and complexion, she chattered gaily to Mrs. Brady, chattering on with scarcely a stop for breath, and laughed much. She said, among other things, that she and her "boy friend" had not known one another very long, but that she was "ga-ga" about him. "He is about me, too," she con- fessed. "He thinks I'm grand." She fell silent then, and in the looking glass her eyes were shad- owed, haunted. But Mrs. Brady, from where she stood, could not see the looking glass; and half a minute later the blonde girl laughed and began again. When she went out she seemed to dance out on winged feet; and Mrs. Brady, sighing, thought it must be nice to be young . . . and happy like that. The next arrivals were two. A tall, extremely smart young woman in black chiffon entered first, and held the door open for her companion; and the instant the door was shut, she said, as though it had been on the tip of her tongue for hours, "Amy, what under the sun hap- pened?" Amy, who was brown-eyed, brown-bobbed-haired, and patently annoyed about something, crossed to the dressing table an flopped into a chair before she made a reply. "Nothing," she said wearily then. "That's nonsense!" snorted the other. "Tell me. Was it something she said? She's a tactless ass, of course. Always was." "No, not anything she said. It was———" Amy bit her lip. "All right! I'll tell you. Before we left your apartment I just happened to notice that Tom had disappeared. So I went to look for him——I wanted to ask him if he'd remembered to tell the maid where we were going—— Skippy's subject to croup, you know, and we always leave word. Well, so I went into the kitchen, thinking Tom might be there mixing cock- tails——and there he was——and there she was!" The full red mouth of the other young woman pursed itself slightly. Her arched brows lifted. "Well?" Her matter-of-factness appeared to infuriate Amy. "He was kissing her!" she flung out. "Well?" said the other again. She chuckled softly and patted Amy's shoulder, as if it were the shoulder of a child. "You're surely not going to let that spoil your whole evening? Any dear! Kissing may once have been serious and significant——but it isn't nowadays. Nowadays, it's like shaking hands. It means nothing." But Amy was not consoled. "I hate her!" she cried desperately. "Redheaded thing! Calling me 'darling' and 'honey,' and s-sending me handkerchiefs for C-Christmas—— and then sneaking off behind closed doors and k-kissing my h-h-hus- band———" At this point Amy broke down, but she recovered herself sufficiently to add with venom, "I'd like to slap her!" "Oh, oh, oh," smiled the tall young woman, "I wouldn't do that!" Amy wiped her eyes with what might well have been one of the Christmas handkerchiefs, and con- fronted her friend. "Well, what would you do, Vera? If you were I?" "I'd forget it," said Vera, "and have a good time. I'd kiss somebody myself. You've no idea how much better you'd feel!" I don't do———" Amy began in- dignantly; but as the door behind her opened a third young woman ——redheaded, ear-ringed, exquisite—— lilted in, she changed her tone. "Oh, hello!" she called sweetly, beaming at the newcomer via the mirror. "We were wondering what had become of you!" The redheaded girl, smiling easily back, dropped her cigarette on the floor and crushed it out wit a silver shod toe. "Tom and I were talking to Fiddle Baer," she explained. "He's going to play 'Clap Yo' Hands' next, because it's my favorite. Lend me a comb, will you?" "There's a comb there," said Vera, indicating Mrs. Brady's business comb. "But imagine using it!" murmured the redheaded girl. "Amy, darling, haven't you one?" Amy produced a tiny comb from her rhinestone purse. "Don't forget to bring it when you come," she said, and stood up. "I'm going on out, I want to tell Tom something." She went. The redheaded young woman and the tall black-chiffon one were alone, except for Mrs. Brady. The red- headed one beaded her incredible lashes. The tall one, the one called Vera, sat watching her." And Sylvia looked. Anybody, addressed in that tone, would have. "There is one thing," Vera went on quietly, holding the other's eyes "that I want understood. And that is, 'Hands off!' Do you hear me?" "I know what you mean." "You know what I mean!" The redheaded girl shrugged her shoulders. "Amy told you she saw us, I suppose." Precisely. And," went on Vera, gathering up her possessions and rising, "as I said before, you're to keep away." Her eyes blazed sudden white-hot rage. "Because, as you very well know, he belongs to me," she said, and departed, slamming the door. Between eleven o'clock and one Mrs. Brady was very busy indeed. Never for more than a moment during those two hours was the dressing room empty. Often it was jammed, full to overflowing with curled cropped heads, with ivory arms and shoulders, with silk and lace and chiffon, with legs. The door flapped in and back, in the back. The mirrors caught and held——and lost—— a hundred different faces. Powder veiled the dressing table with a thin white dust; cigarette stubs, scarlet at the tip, choked the ash receiver. Dimes and quarter clattered into Mrs. Brady's saucer——and were transferred to Mrs. Brady's purse. The original seventy cents remained. That much, and no more, would Mrs. Brady gamble on the integrity of womankind. She earned her money. She threaded needles and took stitches. She powdered the backs of necks. She supplied towels for soapy, drip- ping hands. She removed a speck from a teary blue eye and pounded the heel on a slipper. She curled the struggling ends of a black bob and a gray bob, pinned a velvet flower on a lithe round waist, mixed three doses of bicarbonate of soda, took charge of a shed pink-satin girdle, collected, on hands and knees, sev- eral dozen fake pearls that had wept from a broken string. She served chorus girls and school- girls, gay young matrons and gayer young mistresses, a lady who had divorced four husbands, and a lady who had poisoned one, the secret (more or less) sweetheart of a Most Distinguished Name, and the Brains of a bootleg gang. . . . She saw things. She saw a yellow check, with the ink hardly dry. She saw four tiny bruises, such as fingers might make, on an arm. She saw a girl strike another girl, not playfully. She saw a bundle of letter some man wished he had not written, safe and deep in a brocaded handbag. About midnight the door flew open and at once was pushed shut, and a gray-eyed, lovely child stood backed against it, her palms flattened on the panels at her sides, the dra- peries of her white chiffon gown settling lightly to rest around her. There were already five damsels of varying ages in the dressing room. The latest arrival marked their pres- ence with a flick of her eyes and, standing just where she was, she called peremptorily, "Maid!" Mrs. Brady, standing just where she was, said, "Yes, miss?" "Please come here," said the girl. Mrs. Brady, as slowly as she dared, did so. The girl lowered her voice to a tense half whisper. "Listen! Is there any way I can get out of here except through this door I came in?" Mrs. Brady stared at her stupidly. "Any window?" persisted the girl. "Or anything?" Here they were interrupted by the exodus of two of the damsels-of- varying-ages, Mrs. Brady opening the door for them——and in so doing caught a glimpse of the man who waited in the hall outside, a debonair, old-young man with a girl's furry wrap hung over his arm, and his hat in his hand. The door clicked. The gray-eyed girl moved out from the wall, against which she had flattened herself——for all the world like one eluding pursuit in a cinema. "What about the window?" she demanded, pointing. "That's all the farther it opens," said Mrs. Brady. "Oh! And it's the only one——isn't it?" "It is." "Damn," said the girl. "Then there's no way out?" "No way but the door," said Mrs. Brady testily. The girl looked at the door. She seemed to look through the door, and to despise and to fear what she saw. Then she looked at Mrs. Brady. "Well," she said, "then I s'pose the only thing for me to do is to stay in here." She stayed. Minutes ticked by. Jazz crooned distantly, stopped, struck up again. Other girls came and went. Still the gray-eyed girl sat on the couch, with her back to the wall and her shapely legs crossed smoking cigarettes, one from the stub of another. After a long while she said, "Maid!" "Yes, miss?" "Peek out that door, will you, and see if there's anyone standing there." Mrs. Brady peeked, and reported that there was. There was a gentle- man with a little bit of a black mustache standing there. The same gentleman, in fact, who was stand- ing there "just after you came in." "Oh, Lord," sighed the gray-eyed girl. "Well . . . I can't stay here all night, that's one sure thing." She slid off the couch, and went listlessly to the dressing table. There she occupied herself for a minute or two. Suddenly, without a word, she darted out. Thirty seconds later Mrs. Brady was elated to find two crumpled one- dollar bills lying in the saucer. Her joy, however, died a premature death. For she made an almost si- multaneous second discovery. A a sad- dening one. Above all, a puzzling one. "Now what for," marveled Mrs. Brady, "did she want to walk off with them scissors?" This at twelve-twenty-five. At twelve-thirty a quartet of ex- cited young things burst in, babbling madly. All of them had their evening wraps about them; all talked at once. One of them, a Dresden-china girl with a heart-shaped face, was the center of attraction. Around her the rest fluttered like monstrous butter- flies; to her they addressed their shrill exclamatory cries. "Babe," they called her. Mrs. Brady heard snatches: "Not in this state unless . . ." "Well, you can in Maryland, Jimmy says." "Oh, there must be some place nearer than . . ." "Isn't this marvelous?" "When did it happen, Babe? When did you decide?" "Just now," the girl with the heart- shaped face sang softly, "when we were dancing." The babble resumed, "But listen, Babe, what'll your mother and father . . . ?" "Oh, never mind, let's hurry." "Shall we be warm enough with just these thin wraps, do you think? Babe, will you be warm enough? Sure?" Powder flew and little pocket combs marched through bright mar- cels. Flushed cheeks were painted pinker still. "My pearls," said Babe, "are old. And my dress and my slippers are new. Now, let's see——what can I borrow?" A lace handkerchief, a diamond bar pin, a pair of earrings were proffered. She chose the bar pin, and its owner unpinned it proudly, gladly. "I've got blue garters!" exclaimed a shrill little girl in a silver dress. "Give me one, then," directed Babe. "I'll trade with you. . . . There! That fixes that." More babbling, "Hurry! Hurry up!" . . . "Listen are you sure we'll be warm enough? Because we can stop at my house, there's nobody home." "Give me that puff, Babe, I'll powder your back." "And just to think a week ago you;d never even met each other!" "Oh, hurry up, let's get started!" "I'm ready." "So'm I." "Ready, Babe? You look ador- able." "Come on, everybody." They were gone again, and then dressing room seemed twice as still and vacant as before. A minute of grace, during which Mrs. Brady wiped the spilled pow- der away with a damp gray rag. Then the door jumped open again. Two evening gowns appeared and made for the dressing table in a bee line. Slim tubular gowns they were, one green, one palest yellow. Yel- low hair went wit the green gown, brown hair with the yellow. The green-gowned, yellow-haired girl wore gardenias on her left shoulder, four of them, and a flashing bracelet on each fragile wrist. The other girl looked less prosperous; still, you would rather have looked at her. Both ignored Mrs. Brady's cos- metic display as utterly as they ignored Mrs. Brady, producing full field equipment of their own. "Well," said the girl with gar- denias, rouging energetically, "how do you like him?" "Oh-h——all right." "Meaning, 'Not any,' hmm? I sus- pected as much!" The girl with gardenians turned in her chair and scanned her companion's profile with disapproval. "See here, Marilee," she drawled, "are you going to be a damn fool all your life?" "He's fat," said Marilee dreamily. "Fat, and——greasy, sort of. I mean greasy in his mind. Don't you know what I mean?" "I know one thing," declared the other. "I know Who He Is! And if I were you, that's all I'd need to know. Under the circumstances." The last three words, stressed meaningly, affected the girl called Marilee curiously. She grew grave. Her lips and lashes drooped. For some seconds she sat frowning a little, breaking a black-sheathed lip- stick in two and fitting it together again. "She's worse," she said finally, low. "Worse?" Marilee nodded. "Well," said the girl with gar- denias, "there you are. It's the climate. She'll never be anything but worse, if she doesn't get away. Out West. Arizona or somewhere." "I know," murmured Marilee. The other girl opened a tin of eye shadow. "Of course," she said dryly, "suit yourself. She's not my sister." Marilee said nothing. Quiet she sat, breaking the lipstick, mending it, breaking it. "Oh, well," she breathed finally, wearily, and straightened up. She propped her elbows on the plate- glass dressing-table top and leaned toward the mirror, and with the lip- stick she began to make her coral- pink mouth very red and gay and reckless and alluring. Nightly at one o'clock Vane and Moreno dance for the Club Français. They dance a tango, they dance a waltz; then, by way of encore, they do a Black Bottom, and a trick of their own called the Wheel. They dance for twenty, thirty minutes. And while they dance you do not leave your table——for this is what you came to see. Vane and Moreno. The new New York thrill. The sole justifica- tion for the five-dollar couvert ex- torted by Billy Costello. From one until half-past, then, was Mrs. Brady's recess. She had been looking forward t it all the eve- ning long. When it began——when the opening chords of the tango music sounded stirringly from the room outside——Mrs. Brady brightened. With a right good will she sped the parting guests. Alone, she unlocked her cupboard and took out her magazine——the magazine she had bought three hours before. Heaving a great breath of relief and satisfaction, she plumped herself on the couch and fingered the pages. Immediately she was absorbed, her eyes drinking up the printed lines, her lips moving soundlessly. The magazine was Mrs. Brady's favorite. Its stories were true stories, taken from life (so the editor said); and to Mrs. Brady they were live, vivid threads in the dull, drab pat- tern of her night.

Thank you all for your questions! Here is a summary of our November AMA:

Q: Are we on track to release public DAA and announce the usage of ICN token in December?
If yes, do we have some pre plans to execute the announcement through a conference or live hangout?
A:Hello sparakh17. The platform will not go from 0 to 1. Instead, the rollout of new features will be performed gradually to ensure the highest possible standards you've come to expect of ICONOMI and a spotless user experience. This is a practice we have used in the past, and it has proven to work best in the long run. It takes just one bad experience to turn people away. We are in constant communication with DAA managers and are committed to adding new DAA managers continuously. With intensive two-way communication, we are able to pinpoint the most important parts of the experience and usability in real time, tweaking development and improving the experience for all the new users and managers who join the platform. We chose the first twelve DAA managers for a reason—together we are making the platform a highly dedicated tool tailored to the needs of its users.
The same process will be used for the introduction of the fiat ramp-up, the ability for DAA managers to set DAA structure themselves, and all other features that change the behavior of the platform and therefore must undergo meticulous testing, both in-house and in cooperation with DAA managers. Using this very same process before opening the platform completely on August 1 enabled us to launch without bugs. We favor this process to ensure quality and roll out gradually, so it is very hard to specify an exact date of “the” launch. Anyone can apply to be a DAA manager even now, but the acceptance criteria lower as the platform becomes more and more robust, feature-rich, and automated. However, DAA managers will be added continuously, and everyone is welcome to apply.
Q: Once the platform has been released, and marketing is in full swing, will you be able to add more in-depth KPIs to your shareholder's report, and what ones would you look to add?
Critical statistics for investors to know are;
- Average deposit per user
- Average time spent on the platform per user
- % number of users depositing more than once
- Total recurring visits per user, per calendar month
I am not asking for these stats to be released anytime soon, but the introduction of these KPIs will help us better understand the value proposition that we're involved in.
A: Hello owenoneilluk. You’re right; these are critical statistics. We will be tracking all of these KPIs. Some will be included in our reporting and be accessible via an API, but we have not yet confirmed the complete list. All the data, however, will be available to DAA managers.
Q: When can we expect an independent third-party audit?
A: Hello WorldsMostDad. We are currently in talks with Big Four audit firms. We expect the audit to take place in 2018. As part of our commitment to transparency, we will be the first blockchain project undergoing third-party auditing at an institutional level. The audit will confirm the accuracy of our financial communications, such as the data released in our quarterly financial reports. This kind of transparency will be key to bringing institutional investors onto the platform.
Q: When the FIAT gateway apears on ICONOMI will the ICONOMI Debit card apear at the same time or with delay? If delayed, what kind of delay are we talking about?
A: Hello investmox. The fiat ramp-up and the debit card are two separate features, both of which will be released over several phases. First, fiat will be added as an option in DAA structures. This will enable managers to temporarily move into fiat during periods of high volatility. The next step will be enabling fiat deposits for large transfers over a certain amount, which will allow us to bring bigger investors onto the platform. Later, the fiat gateway minimum amount will be removed. The debit card infrastructure will be developed in parallel and is likely to be released soon after the fiat ramp-up because it takes more time to develop, implement, and test.
Q: Hello Iconomi team! Platform looks better and better with every update!
My question is simple:
Can you share the total AUM of BLX and the other 12 DAAs combined (please separately from BLX), and the number of registered users at the time of answering this question?
A: Hello Daparski. In the future, users will be able to track the AUM for each DAA directly on the platform. For now, the current AUM for BLX is $8,495,546.39, and the AUM for the other DAAs combined is $2,721,384.90.
There are 33,253 registered users on the platform at this time.
Q: In a previous AMA, it was stated that ICONOMI was working on an assurance to cover potentially lost of assets. Can you elaborate on the current status regarding the insurance of ICONOMI's assets, and what type of losses are covered (i.e. server hack, protocol bug, software bug, etc.)?
Keep up the good work!
A: Hello zuiderwijk. We will release details about the scope of our insurance policies once the deal has been finalized.
Q: What steps have been taken to solve the issue regarding the parity vulnerability and minimizing the risk of similar events occuring in the future?
A: Hello CorradoJunior. We are closely monitoring the situation. The Parity team is working on a solution, and the frozen funds could be unlocked with the next planned Ethereum hard fork. We will continue to update the community when we receive any new information. We want to emphasize that all of our users’ digital assets are safe and that the functioning of the platform remains unaffected.
Security procedures must be constantly reevaluated and improved, especially in the blockchain environment. We are implementing an overall security program to address these new challenges.
Q: Currently 20% of realized profits from CCP are being used for buybacks. However, most of the CCP assets are being held in Ether which won't count towards buybacks; and also it's previously been communicated that the profits will be calculated against the currency they were purchased with. This means that even if an investment doubles in USD, there could be 0 realized profits if the eth or btc pair it was purchased against also doubled.
CCP has increased tremendously in value, by tens of millions of dollars, yet we've only had roughly 200k icn burned. If we could add a 3% management fee on top of CCP at the current cap of 50m, this would mean at least $100,000 worth of ICN burned per month at current levels.
Will there be any consideration to charge a management fee on CCP?
A: Hello stephen2512, and thank you for your interesting proposal. We will take it into consideration, but we currently have no plans to change the fee structure for CCP. Charging a 3 percent management fee on CCP may have some benefits, but it would impose significant added costs for ICONOMI that would outweigh the benefits at this time.
Q: Do you work towards partnership with well-known investment funds?
A: Hello Bumerang007. Details about any future partnerships will be released when they are publicly announced.
Q: There has been ongoing communication from Jani8x and the team that Iconomi will "always keep enough assets in fiat for at least 2 years of runway. In that case operation will never be jeopardized no matter what" (https://www.reddit.com/ICONOMI/comments/697cbiconomi_ama_may_2017/dh548ay/).

Today in the Q3 Report we learned that Iconomi has $2,542,531 plus $577,700 (Total of $3,120231) in fiat and that the team has spent $742,314 in salaries, rent, etc this quarter.

If the team were to stop giving raises, stop hiring new people, and cross their fingers that rent wouldn't go up at their building, then that would make the operating costs *$5,938,512 over the next two years* ($742,314 * 8).

On the Iconomi website, however, they are hiring for three new positions (https://www.iconomi.net/jobs), and since the team has been growing by 15%+ each quarter, it's reasonable to assume continued growth around this rate.

Cost of Operations per the last 3 AMAs:
2017 - Q1 - $562,542
2017 - Q2 - $646,912
2017 - Q3 - $742,314

Projected Cost of Operations (assuming the same 15% growth that has been demonstrated each quarter this year continues):
2017 - Q4 - $853,661
2018 - Q1 - $981,710
2018 - Q2 - $1,128,966
2018 - Q3 - $1,298,311
2018 - Q4 - $1,493,058
2019 - Q1 - $1,717,017
2019 - Q2 - $1,974,569
2019 - Q3 - $2,270,755

To maintain the 2 year fiat runway Iconomi needs between: $5,938,512 and $11,718,047 BUT per the q3 report the team only has $3,120231 on hand in fiat. This means the team actually has enough cash on hand for about 3-4 quarters and not 2 years.

In light of recent events such as the Parity Multi Sig exploit, it would seem as imperative as ever that the team keep this 2 years of FIAT as a buffer as has been previously communicated. Since the team does not seem to be keeping these holdings per the Q3 report;   Why are important deviations from AMAs (such as changing FIAT holdings and moving funds Back into parity multi sig wallets) not being communicated to the community?
A: Hello stephen2512. Thank you for your detailed analysis. It is important to understand that team size does not grow linearly, so a growth rate of 15 percent every quarter is very unlikely. It is also necessary to take potential revenue into account when making projections of this kind. Our fiat holdings are not fixed: we monitor the level of our holdings closely and adjust it based on our expectations of what will happen in the crypto market.
Q: As I understand, Iconomi has a positive cashflow after a year of existence. Please elaborate on a Cost-to-Income Ratio (CIR): I would like to understand the main drivers of numerator and denumerator, what are your CIR predictions for 2018/2019, and what does Iconomi plan to do with company profits?
A: Hello drediedas. Operating costs are mainly salaries, rent, legal costs, travel, and other administrative and fixed costs, while operating income is comprised of fees generated by the platform.
ICONOMI is a very dynamic project. It is impossible to imagine all the changes the fast-moving blockchain environment will go through over the next two years, and regulatory changes may impose new costs. Because of these factors, it is difficult to make useful long-term CIR predictions.
Q: Are you actively pursuing partnership opportunities with traditional financial institutions (outside of blockchain.one). (E.g. If Iconomi could be the preferred partner of Fidelity for cryptocurrency investors; that would be exceptional)
A: Hello vertigo2130. Yes, we are constantly working with traditional financial institutions to form new partnerships and to get feedback. However, as mentioned in our response to Bumerang007’s question, we cannot talk about specific potential partnerships until they have been confirmed and publicly announced.
Q: When it comes to voting, it seems like the corporate standard is usually just to vote on the executive team. I know the details for this are still being worked out, but can some clarification be given at least to if we would just be voting for the executive team we want or if the only option will be, vote for the whole ICN team or vote for another whole company to manage it. It seems like if we’re forced to choose between entire companies then the fix is in because most people would never want to risk that. It would make more sense to vote only for the executive team.
When the vote comes after the 2 year mark, will the vote be just for members of the executive team, or will we be forced to vote on the entire company as a whole?
A: Hello stephen2512. ICN holders will definitely be voting on the service provider for ICONOMI, but the details will be further defined. The concept of a service provider is new, and the actual process will largely depend on the state of legislation. As we have stated in previous AMAs, we will release more details about the voting process as the two-year mark approaches.
Q: Using transparency as key iconomi value, using old economy rules of transparency would also apply in full with no obstacles. Such as reports of ICN buy and sell transactions.
Investors asume this is basic transparency reporting:
Why aren’t you reporting, in spirit of compliance and transparency, as a good will and being step ahed of competition, all buy and sell transactions, volume, prices, dates, place of execution of ICN token from ICONOMI, ICONOMI related legal entities, management employees ... ?
A: Hello legaltenderlegal, and thank you for the suggestion. In future, we will be publishing this data in full.
ICONOMI has always been deeply committed to transparency. We are in the process of hiring a Big Four auditing company, which will help us ensure that we are correctly applying all the rules of transparency from the old economy. We also touched on this topic in our response to WorldsMostDad’s question above.
Q: I'd like to know the due diligence that ICONOMI take before making any investment via Pinta - specifically I'd like to know what thought/reasoning went into the investment in Musiconomi? Is association with CoFound.it enough to secure a Pinta investment or do you see some long term play there? Major record labels are typically very slow to react - I'd imagine real disruption wont come from a company that has "music" in their name.
A: Hello benjaminbrick. Regarding Musiconomi, we cannot comment on Pinta investments on a deal-by-deal basis.
The art of early stage investment is understanding the business and people behind the project. Questions we ask when evaluating a project include: Are the founders in it for the right reasons? Does the project make sense in terms of marketing? Is the project technically feasible? There are no metrics involved in the process because early stage companies don’t have reliable metrics yet.
It is also important to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the blockchain world. We achieve this through great communication with ICO incubator Cofound.it and by meeting and speaking with other companies at conferences.
Q: Hello ICONOMI team. Great work so far on the platform, but we investors in ICN sometimes get the felling that you are neglecting ICN token a little. We get questions "what gives ICN value" or "why would I even buy ICN token since it's got no use" on this subreddit almost every day. How would you anwser that question and how do you see ICN moving forward in 2018 and beyond.
A: Hello lakopy. The parameters of the ICN token have not changed since the ICO and remain as promised in the original whitepaper and explained in several AMAs and blog posts. The buyback program and the vote on the service operator are the direct implementations of the whitepaper promise. We have also gone forward with the utility of the ICN token, as previously explained. What made us one of the most successful projects in 2016 continues to hold true in 2017 and will continue to hold true in 2018.
Q: After the Parity incident you have stated that all users’ digital assets stored on the platform are completely safe, and the functioning of the platform is unaffected. However, some of the company’s assets were stored using the affected Parity multi-sig contract and will remain inaccessible until the situation is resolved.
You have stated that you still hold and can access funds that are worth 85m USD.
Both lost 38M USD of ETH and the remaining 85M USD numbers seem to come from the ICONOMI balance sheet section of your Q3 report. CCP Pinta value is also included there and the amount is equal to CCPs assets under management.
Can you shed some light into what you consider as "users' assets" and what you consider as "company's assets", because there is no clear distinction between the two in your report. How much of these assets are users' and how much belongs to the company? Do you have a clear distinction between assets invested for profit and assets company is using for operational expenses? Do you consider assets gathered by ICN ICO as users' assets or company assets?
A: Hello IReadErgoSum. The distinction between user assets and company assets is simple: user assets are any assets transferred to the platform by a user, and company assets are the assets ICONOMI received during the ICO. Because all the company’s assets are available for operational expenses, we do not distinguish between invested assets and assets used for operational expenses.
Q: Hi! Which legal entity will hold licence for providing fiat gateway on the Iconomi platform. Iconomi Inc. or some other?
A: Hello lakopy. The license will be held by a daughter company of ICONOMI that is currently being established.
Q: Hello, good job with the progress of the platform and scaling the company. But help me to understand one thing: why profits (of sold tokens you received from hardforks and airdrops) are not used for buybacks (BCH, OMG)? Iconomi had about 1000-1500 BTC in Pinta, received same amount of BCH and sold it, which means at least something out of it should go to profit. Same goes to OMG airdrop.
In my opinion (as investor) in case of hardforks and airdrops 100% of profits should be used to buybacks, as a best representation of investors interests (there are more than 70% of uninvested assets in the Pinta). do you consider that to put in practice in near future (one of next hardfork/airdrop)?
Edit: updated what was lost in translation (thanks to jesusthatsgreat who pointed it out)
A: Hello UnforgettableSandbox. The digital assets that ICONOMI DAAs receive via hard forks and airdrops are not sold for a profit. These assets are either converted into the digital assets that make up the DAA and distributed across the structure or, as with Pinta and Bitcoin Cash, added to the structure as a new investment.
Q: What keeps you, the employers of Iconomi, working on Iconomi? In other words, what is it that keeps you motivated to keep up the work for the platform?
A: Hello Dogephone. In addition to the vision of ICONOMI—bringing together the old and the new economy—the ICONOMI team is comprised of the best people anyone could hope to work with. In this early stage of blockchain, the field attracts the brightest and most intelligent people who are all extremely passionate about their work. It is a field that changes constantly, which gives room for constant improvement and growth, both on the personal and professional levels of each individual working here. The work is never boring because there are many challenges to overcome and unknowns to figure out. Doing this in a team of like-minded, highly motivated people who are passionate about their work is a once-in-a-lifetime experience..

Building a (M)MORPG in Node.js

tl;dr:
Why is it down sometimes? People have been asking me why the demo is down at times. Long story short, the entire server is getting a nice makeover on several fronts: Reliability, Security, and Content. I don't have any guesses now on the official launch date, but there will be more pre-release demos to come.
--Here's a link to the new demo: http://xion.ddns.net
NEWS
Fixed a bunch of strange bugs, updated artwork. Reorganized serverside stuff.
Updated with an account system so that players can keep their username and associated items.

Let me know if you discover any issues
ntl;r:
Throughout the past 2 months I've been steadily slaving away at building a multiplayer online game in Node.js. It's been a very satisfying juggle between Server dev, Client dev, pixel art, and brainstorming.
This project started as an experiment to see if Node.js is fast enough to run a realtim MOG server. I have been pleasantly surprised so far, but I have not run sufficient stress-tests to conclude that it's a good platform.
Current Architecture
Client
Server * Hosted on Google Cloud (VM Instance)
Game Logic
The game server maintains a CPU usage of ~5% with ~10 players playing. There are very few blocking operations, most actions are just a few variable checks and updates.
Players have several setTimeout/setInterval functions that perform actions at intervals. There are no blocking loops, except for enemy target seeking and pathfinding. Most needed values are stored just a few object references away.
All values and item properties are cached (duplicated if necessary) to avoid loops for looking stuff up every time. Memory is more plentiful than CPU, especially in Node, so it helps to calculate a value once when it changes, and store it for easy lookup later.
Creatures - Simply special versions of Players, that have additional AI timeouts and properties. AI function intervals change based on how close the nearest player is, all intensive operations (like PF) are performed as infrequently as possible, and avoided until absolutely necessary.
Pathfinding - One reason why I love Node.js is that third-party modules are diverse and plentiful. A spent a week as an anxietyfarm stressing over pathfinding algorithms, until i decided to search NPM for pathfinding and what-do-you know? I found an excellent PF module: https://github.com/qiao/PathFinding.js
TileMap - the map is a 3D array of "Tiles", Tiles are arrays of items, and Items are a collection of properties. Every item stores properties locally even if they are of a common "type". When items are added/removed to tiles, the tile's properties are updated for easy lookup. This removes the need to loop thru all the items each time I need to determine the tile's properties. The map is loaded from a Tiled map.json file, and clients are only sent visible portions of the map. Clients delete off-screen tiles to keep the graphics running at high framerate.
Lag-Compensation/Prediction - forgot to mention this one.. in the earlier version, the client would simple send action commands to the server, and the server would send all movement packets, even to yourself. This, however yielded a noticeable delay in responsiveness. To create an instant response time, movement steps are predicted locally, and then over-written by server's authoritative response when it arrives.

Alpraking's The Kingpin Handbook - Chapter 1

The Kingpin Handbook - Chapter 1
1. Outsource
Outsourcing simply refers to the noble art of hiring other people, "pawns of the checker", to do the dirty work. You want to hire clean people that dont arise suspicions. They will be doing the dirty work so you want to hire someone who isn't already involved in drug trade or has priors. Don't get me wrong, you'll do everything in your power to protect them. Remember, if your guys catch heat, it can propagate to deeper layers fairly quickly and ultimately, to you.
2. Separate Administration & Execution
Have a layer of people who are doing the "boss" work and another one who is doing the "executive" work. Boss work is mainly paperwork and verifications to ensure everyone is doing his job properly and numbers balance and quality control is in check. Administrators dont get their hand dirty as that they will not handle the drugs themselves, but they will make sure packs are being shipped, tracking codes are being handled, productions are being made correctly and such. Administration is a promotion for executives who have shown a great degree of skill and loyalty. You can't put just anyone to overlook someone else's work. You have to get someone who has done it before and will be able to train new personnel or solve irregular issues. I normally promote my executors to administrators once they have shown that they can handle any issue from their business. I have them hire one of their friend and pay both from my own pocket. Employees kind of like hearing "hey, how about you keep your salary, train your friend to do your job, and you both will earn the same thing, paid from the big boss' pocket." More than money, people want power. Give power to people who want power and keep the money for yourself.
3. Treat your employees well but do NOT overpay them.
Treat your employees well by giving them insurances, paid vacations & trips, surprises bonuses, gifts and such. Do NOT give them a large payout even if they're pressing or shipping hundreds of thousands of pills. If someone becomes too comfortable with his pay, his quality of work will lower. you have to keep your employees dependant on you. Overpaying employees = Bad work. Double loss. For example in my own company all employees have a health insurance. they are allowed up to 1500/month in private medical, psychological bills paid by my expense) If not used, it will be given as a bonus vacation trip every couple months. Any lawyer time they might need for questions is also paid by the company.
4. Don't hire people under 30 years old
Both in the administrative and executive field. People under 30 years old are reckless, like to hang out in bars and brag to friends. People over 30 years old (get 40,50+ if you can) tend to be more straight with their shit. Much less likely to steal or botch the work and normally know the value of money. If you can get someone 40 yo+ that doesn't have a record, its most likely someone who already had a full-time job and knows how to work decently and not do dirty shit. Im 20 btw.
5. Inform your people
Tell them the truth. what they're risking, what to expect, have them meet your own loyal people who already been arrested for you and have them testify about the backup they had for not snitching. People will be much less likely to switch on you if you've told them exactly the truth. Don't go around with "There's no risk!" bullshit. Not only will your guys not believe you but they'll totally go nuts when they get arrested if you do.
6. Back your own people
Make sure all of your people are properly lawyered up. have them know by heart the name and phone number of their designated lawyer (under your control) and have them meet regularly, all expenses paid by you, in order to strengthen this trust between the lawyer and the employee.
7. Don't hire people yourself
People close to you, that you love and value, should not be getting their hands dirty on the long run. have them quit, or promote them quickly, if you have them on the field. As soon as they've mastered their work, have them hire their own friend to do your work, and pay both.
8. Rotate your employees between jobs
By rotating your employees between various work in your company you not only prevent heat from accumulating on one particular place or person, confusing investigations, but you're also contributing to their general training. this has various positive consequences; You are able to better target the quality and flaws of your various employees by having them try numerous different things. Also, if a branch of the operation is arrested, you can quickly reach out to your other personnel who has done similar work in the past to fill the voids.
9. Have separate different secret work spots, and different labs
In order to confuse investigations, its mandatory to have different personnel, work spots, and labs. If i feel that heat is growing on one lab, I can quickly clean it up, have the worker stop and lay low for a while, and i simply transfer the workload over another less-heated up lab and production-guy. Its very difficult to see all the connections amongst various people especially when dealing with over 30 employees, but its needed. These connections are what will carry heat. I tend to think of it a bit like a computer would:
10. Get it down to numbers
You suspect your packs are being profiled. If there is profiling going on, your courier is going to be considered the starting point of the heat. We will give it a 80% heat rating for this very event. Considering the courier access 3 times a week a stash, you will give the stash a 50% heat rating, just from this very link. the stash himself is linked to the lab, but only access it once every 2 weeks. you will give your lab a 15% heat rating from this very event. Your threshold of risk is 70% (meaning you will shut down someone/somewhere that has over 70% heat rating), at this point you will shut down the courier and have him lay low, but the heat is not yet sufficient to close the stash and the lab, at 50% and 15% respectively
Now a few days later you see a cop car parked on the street of your lab. This very event is worth 50% heat on your lab, and will also drip a 20% heat on your stash and 5% on your courier due to the links.
Now shit got hot. Everything is above 70% closing the entire branch.
You'll admit it doesn't take math to notice that if your packs are being profiled AND a cop car is seen near your lab, you must be pretty hot as a whole and you SHOULD shut down. All I did was add numbers to follow the flow of heat and decide wisely what is hot and what is not. My objective is to keep all places around 30-40% heat which i consider a stable zone. If 60-70% is reached im going to start investigating very closely, but I will not close it down. If it busts 80% then its being closed down and laid low for a few weeks. Its not accurate because you have to estimate everything with little to no information, but it definitely helps seeing things and calculate your moves. If an event bust 150%, i will completely dismantle the place and move it to another spot.
11. Trust buffers
Always have a layer of administration between you and your executives. You don't hire any executives, have your administrators do it. By doing so, NO ONE at risk of being busted knows who you are, let alone that you exist. If employees get caught and want to snitch, all they'll snitch is your administrator, who you should have sufficient trust in to believe he wont snitch you also.
12. Family links between employees are powerful
If you testify in court, you don't get to choose who you snitch and who you don't (In Canada at least). You snitch everything or nothing. So it helps if employees get caught with members of their families, because they are much less likely to snitch as it would involve having them snitch on their own family. You can also use the trust between members of a single family to your advantage. You can normally trust your employee's brother or sister pretty much the same as you can trust your employee. assuming both work for you.
13. Control the money
Do not reveal how much you're making or how much people are making relative to one another. Its none of their business. I normally fund in cash one of my administrators with a lot of cash and he pays everyone by sending them cash in the mail, or bitcoins. He makes comptability records and bring them to me so i can see where the money went, before I handle more cash/btc to him.
14. Encrypt everything
Have your employees familiar with tails & tor+pgp communications. Anyone minially professional will take some notes. Make sure all your employees from the top to the bottom is familiar with TAILS and has a secure passphrase. Have them place all their documentation and notes there. Any paper hanging around must be burned.
15. Avoid keeping illegal shit around the "dangerous hours"
I refer to "Dangerous hours" as week-days 5AM to 8AM. My experience has shown me 90% of large drug raids occur during this time period.
16. Not everyone has to know everyone
Its everyone's dream to think its like the movies where we gangsta organise "cartel parties" where everyone is invited. It doesn't work that way. If someone doesn't have to meet someone, don't make them meet. Don't take the risk of adding up more "heat rating" by creating un-necessary links between individuals who are not directly connected.
17. Keep "jokers"
Jokers are last-resort cards that allow you to solve dangerous issues or take-over control of your business in the event of catastrophic problems. Pictures of your employees naked, hacked passwords to their facebooks, knowing their addresses, etc. Anything you can use against them if shit goes wrong helps.
18. Be diplomat when kicking people out
Always be very diplomat when kicking people out. Give them a nice fat good-bye paycheck and specify you're giving them this paycheck to "forget everything". Keep good terms and explain your decisions with opsec and that you're doing this for their own protection.
19. If your company screw up, pickup the pieces, dont flee
Believe me, its worth more in the long run if you admit to being busted/admit to problems, refund everyone, close shop for a few months, and come back, than it is to exit scam and start under a new name. It builds confidence in the long run. Its easy to be honest when your business goes well. But its in the bad moments that you show your true face. If you've been fucked in the past, been honest with everyone then came back, it gives an assurance that the same will happen if there's a fuckup in the future. How many vendors look so perfect until they start having issues? and when they do, most will run with customers money. If you are honest with customers despite problems, it will reward you later. It also helps looking at yourself in the mirror in the morning knowing you haven't fucked over a ton of people with less wealth than you.
20. Always change
Always change lab locations, stealth, rotate employees, open and closes front or laundering shops. Have several at the same time so you can switch work between places. Its like playing whack a mole with LE. If you stay too long in one single place, you'll get caught. I do not believe in "mega-labs" with super OPSEC that are stable for years. A decentralized network of several small labs & dispatch places, constantly changing places, is the best. Its even better when you can afford to change places AND employee at the same time. Literally drops heat rating to 0%
21. Make sure your team's opsec is always on point
Meet regularly with your administrators and have them tell you all the problems. Never get angry and don't judge them. They'll be much more open if they do not fear your reaction. Everyone can make mistakes. Your administrators should have the same attitude toward their employees. A transparent company allows you to see more problems and react accordingly.
22. Don't flash
Don't. Just don't. Fuck nice cars & nice houses as long as you are on the field or know directly people who work on the field. That will get you heated up more than anything else. Pile your money, hide it and work on laundering it with as much care and opsec as you do with your drugs. Fuel it in a legitimate business, with customers, then start laundering it slowly. Remember, as long as your money isn't properly laundered, its virtual. Anything you buy with it is a cursed gift that will increase your own heat and can also potentially be seized by LE. You can start flashing when all your work has been securely outsourced or when you retire.
23. Don't get high on your own supply
You should actually never even have your own supply in your house or somewhere that could be linked to you. It also impairs your judgement and can worsen paranoia, narcissism and other personality problems you tend to develop being in the drug business. Especially Xanax. Dont take Xanax and make important decisions; you will regret it.
24. Prepare for an arrest
Prepare yourself, psychologically and with your lawyer, your family, your administrators, in the event of a bust. Make sure you have cash readily accessible by your trusted people and have a plan. You won't be able to interact much with the outside world starting the very moment your door is rammed. And you won't be told when it would happen. Run "simulations" of a scenario where you and several of your administrators are arrested. Make sure someone can take your place or at least handle your personal stuff, and get yourself a lawyer early on the payroll. Every time you go to sleep in your bed, it might be the last night you get to pass there for a couple years. And every time you wake up in the morning, congratulate yourself because you've survived yet another day.

Kyber Network - An Introduction

When Ethereum was first introduced, many people had anticipated that it would become the mammoth it is today. At the time of writing, the market capitalization of Ethereum is already over $90 billion, with a host of DApps (decentralized applications) including Digix, Gnosis, Golem and Melonport, to name a few, and contributing to the further expansion of the ecosystem.
Interestingly, the emergence of DApps in the blockchain space re-instigated the ICO (initial coin offering) phenomenon, in which start-ups conduct fundraising events based on token sales to finance further development of their project. Through ICOs, companies and organizations introduce their crypto-assets, or colloquially known as tokens, to the public. These tokens are a new form of tradable digital asset made possible by blockchain technology.

The Side Effects of Having Many Crypto-tokens

We are approaching an ecosystem with a huge amount of diverse crypto-assets. As more and more projects raise fund through the launches of platform tokens, the number of tokens in the market will increase.
Over time, investors of blockchain companies and contributors of the various protocols will acquire a variety of desired tokens as part of their investment strategies. However, limited option to liquidate tokens in the market makes convertibility of one token to another token a new challenge for both investors and operators alike. Further, having more tokens in the market also means more options for payments, putting more pressure to merchants to accept all forms of tokens from users.

The Elephant in the Room: Crypto-assets Exchanges

Today, daily trades between notable cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin and ether are in the millions. Similarly, average daily trades between ether and other crypto-assets, most of which are less than 2 years of age, are also in the millions. Having said that, despite the decentralized and trustless nature of crypto-assets, the major fraction of trading volume is on centralized exchanges, which are still subject to internal fraud and external hacking. This is an ongoing concern as various hacking incidents have been reported at different exchanges affecting thousands of users and causing loss of hundreds of millions of dollars.
Not only that, existing exchanges, whether centralized or decentralized, often required users to wait for several minutes before a trade can be confirmed and allow users to withdraw sales proceed out of the exchange. This means that the selling price that users see when an order is placed might not necessarily be the price charged when the same order is filled.
Despite already having several offerings in the market now, there are still issues that decentralized exchanges have to address before they are ready for mainstream adoption. These issues/ challenges consist of low liquidity, lack of user friendliness and so on. For example, some of the decentralized exchanges keep their order book on-chain. Nothing wrong with that, but doing so makes adjustment and cancellation of bids costly due to the compounding of transaction costs, a result of repeated revisions of orders until a match between the buy and sell side is found. Moreover, the delay between when an order is created and when an order is added to a block creates a buffer that can be exploited by attackers.
(Read more here)
To address the issues that centralized and decentralized exchanges face, Kyber Network was born.

Introducing Kyber Network

Very simply, Kyber Network is a decentralized and trustless exchange that facilitates instant conversions between crypto-assets. Through Kyber Network’s service, a user can send token A to an intended recipient who wishes to receive the payment in token B in a single transaction. Not only that, Kyber Network will also introduce a new smart contract interface that would allow existing wallets, which only accepts certain specific tokens (e.g. Jaxx only accepts REP, GNT, etc. but not others), to receive any existing or future token (e.g. PAY and CVC) without having to modify the token contract code (i.e. the recipient is not aware that the payment actually was proxied via Kyber Network). In other words, Kyber Network enables smart contracts and recipients to access a wider class of users and receive contributions and payments from any token that the platform supports.

How Kyber Network Differs from other exchanges?

Speed and Security. Kyber Network is block-instantaneous and it significantly reduces the buffer between when an order is made and when it is filled. As soon as the transaction which initiates the order gets accepted into a block, the trade is confirmed. This feature offers users greater trading security as it eliminates the vulnerability a result of the acceptance window of transactions that could be exploited by attackers. By design, Kyber Network operator does not hold users’ tokens and orders are enforced by smart contracts, so these tokens are secured from theft losses. Liquidity Guaranteed. Kyber Network guarantees liquidity by a combination of the following 2 ways:
1: Leveraging on its own reserve warehouse, which holds an appropriate amount of crypto-tokens;
2: Reserves in the network managed by independent reserve managers, which may or may not be directly associated to the Kyber Network operator. Each of the reserve can make its own price for every token pair that it supports. When there is a request for converting from token A to to token B, the Kyber operator contract will pick the best rate from all the reserves to process the request.
Compatibility and On-chain Exchange. In addition, since Kyber Network runs on chain and all the trades are instantaneously confirmed, Kyber Network works with all accounts, including normal accounts and smart contracts. With Kyber Network, orders are matched between senders and recipients without any intervention from third party, thereby allowing users to send and receive tokens of any kind without the need to alter the form of contracts and the underlying protocol of Ethereum.

How Does it work?

Kyber Network’s innovative approach to guarantee the liquid, trustless and instant convertibility of tokens involves these 5 actors.
Each of the actors illustrated in this diagram interacts with the smart contract independently in a different way, and collectively, the dynamic reserve pool within Kyber Network is able to feed a user’s request to convert a token to another within a single transaction.
Moreover, Kyber Network allows multiple reserves to co-exist so that the platform can offer the best conversion rate between a range of tokens for users. Other than the reserve managed by Kyber Network’s operator, individuals or organizations not associated to Kyber Network can also participate in the system by registering with Kyber Network to contribute to the overall reserve pool, and become the reserve manager of their proposed entity. By enabling this, Kyber Network is essentially setting up channels to facilitate conversions and transactions of low-trading-volume tokens. In this case, Kyber Network does not hold the funds managed by independent reserve managers, but Kyber Network will ensure that their reserve contracts comply to the platform’s terms.
More details on how Kyber Network works can be found in our whitepaper here

How Are Reserve Managers Incentivized?

Kyber Network creates a platform for reserve managers to monetize their otherwise idle assets. By serving trade requests from users, reserves earn profit from the spread determined by reserve managers. As Kyber Network gain more traffic through collaborations with wallet providers and various other token projects, reserve managers are likely to benefit directly from the trading volume due to network effects within Kyber Network.
In addition, Kyber Network provides a reserve dashboard software to help reserve managers monitor transactions to and from their reserves. The reserve dashboard will come with standard and popular trading algorithms and strategies, which reserve managers can employ to automatically set prices and rebalance their portfolio. This flexibility of the platform allows reserve managers to implement and deploy their own strategies when and where they see fit.

What Else Does the Platform Offer To Users?

The illiquidity of crypto-assets results in highly volatile exchange rates between tokens due to irregular and unpredictable demand and supply. Worse, unless the trading volume of a token is significant, hardly any exchange would warehouse the tokens, and that limits token holders’ options to trade or liquidate a particular token. As such, it is impossible for token holders to hedge their positions to reduce the risk of adverse price movements in the future.
In view of this, Kyber Network will be addressing the liquidity challenge by introducing derivative trading including options and forward contracts.
Options. Option contracts allow users to hedge against adverse price movement for a fee known as a premium. A “call option” gives the owner of the contract the right to purchase a crypto-asset at an agreed price, while a “put option” allows the owner of the contract to sell a crypto-asset at an agreed price. The premium here will be calculated using the implied volatility of the underlying crypto-asset.
Forward Contract. In a forward contract, involved parties agree to execute a trade at a later date at a price specified in the present. Forward contract will be useful in a case where token holders need a specified amount of tokens at a future date. For example, assuming that Alice has Melon tokens and she wishes to acquire some Ether to invest in an upcoming ICO in three weeks’ time. Her option is either to exchange Melon tokens for Ether now, or she could enter and purchase a forward contract due in three weeks to negate the risk of Ether’s price fluctuations, should she wish to hold on to her Melon tokens for a longer time or she is waiting for an event where she would receive her Melon tokens.

Token Utility - how does it appeal to investors:

The main token utility is for reserve managers to use KNC to pay fees for each transaction, meaning that users don’t need to hold KNC to operate on the platform. This creates a seamless interface where transaction fees are priced into token conversions. Large companies/reserve managers are likely to stockpile and hold tokens for future payments, thus reducing overall circulating supply and driving up price.
KNC paid for these fees will be burnt, thus lowering supply and due to supply and demand economics will likely cause the individual token price to increase. Fees are paid as a small percentage of the cost of the transaction. For example, in a transaction to convert $100 worth of ETH to another token, and the token fee is 0.1%, $0.1 worth of KNC will be burnt.
This token utility model was cocreated and advised by Vitalik, a similiar model can be found in his blog post here
